Theme and Style

Eldritch Dungeon is set in a high-fantasy world and adapts the classic video game trope of the dungeon crawl to the world of slots. It’s a good candidate for it, after all, one of the main driving mechanics of games like Diablo and Diablo II is the loot drop.

Eldritch Dungeon begins with a character welcoming the player to a mystical dungeon before loading up the main game in which the dungeon is laid out behind the reels. On the reels, the player is represented by a knight in armor who moves across the reels (and eventually into one of the bonus games if the player is lucky).

Eldritch Dungeon is about as close as slot players can get to playing a video game at the same time.

Graphics, Sounds and Animations

With Eldritch Dungeon, Print Studios has really put its best foot forward. The main character’s dungeon adventure is brought to life with not just a wide range of gameplay types but also a huge number of art assets and animations.

The video game quality of the slot is most emphasized here, where win and spin animations are just the first in a series of visual treats. Each bonus game has its own set of art styles and animations.

All of this is tied together with excellent sound design evoking fantasy movies and the world of Dungeons and Dragons.

Gameplay

Eldritch Dungeon is played on a eight-by-eight grid. Players make winning combinations by landing groups of at least five matching symbols linked together vertically and horizontally.

Winning combinations are removed from the reels before those spots are respun.

Where the game gets interesting is the Character symbol. The Character symbol lands every spin, always somewhere on the leftmost column. When a route forward is opened up around the Character by removed symbols, he moves as far to the right as the opening allows.

If he reaches the exit on the far side of the reels, he triggers a bonus game for the player.

When the player destroys certain symbols, one of several features called Spectral Effects can be triggered. These effects can add Wilds and transform symbols to give the player another chance at a win and a triggered cascade.

The player can also trigger a series of Relic Effects that will apply to the player should they trigger one of the game’s bonus rounds and Companion Effects that can impact the layout of symbols on the reels.

The maximum win on any given round is capped at a massive 20,000x of the player’s bet.

Wilds, Bonuses and Free Spins

The Wild symbol substitutes for all symbols in the base game. The Character symbol also functions as a Wild symbol.

There are two bonus games, the Dungeon Battle and Treasure Hall Spins.

Dungeon Battle is triggered when the Character symbol gets to the exit position in the base game. He then ventures into a new game in which the player is pitted against various villains in autoplay battles. The Character faces one, two, or three enemies. Defeating the enemies earns the player Spectral Keys.

The Dungeon Battle ends after the player loses three fights or wins all 9 levels.

To get to Treasure Hall Spins, the player must get through Dungeon Battle and defeat the Old One in level 9.

Treasure Hall Spins are back to a more traditional slot game, but with only the middle six positions unlocked. Each Spectral Key the player has unlocks an additional block. The player can also land additional Spectral Keys to further unlock squares.

The Treasure Hall spins are an otherwise typical Coin Bonus, where the player wins money and additional by landing Coin symbols on reels that contain only coins and blanks. At the end of the Bonus, the player collects all the coins on the reels.
