Rhino’s may be endangered, but there’s plenty to go around in this safari themed slot with high volatility and decent RTP (95.91%).
Read full reviewRaging Rhino is a nature-themed slot focusing on the fauna of the African plain (for the most part – there’s some gorillas in there too, which are a forest species). The slot has stylised renderings of rhinos, honey badgers, and leopards. I like that this slot has leopards in place of the more typical and rather obvious lions, zebras and elephants.
This slightly off-kilter approach to classic forms and formats appears in many aspects of Raging Rhino and it is right there in the way this theme is presented by WMS.
The graphics for Raging Rhino are nice. Even though they use the same pseudo-airbrush style that all savanna-themed slots seem to use, they do so with great aplomb. The background colours are golden sunset, the reels are aquamarine, and the animals are all drawn just stylised enough to give them real character – the crocodile looks like a caiman, the honey badger looks more like a wolverine, and the rhino has elaborate wrinkles.
The animations are straightforward and clean and bring the whole set of reels forward when they spin so that the whole screen is filled. The reels then recede when key information needs to be displayed in the borders this creates.
The soundtrack is an audio landscape of all the wild creatures on the reels and the spin and win sounds are accompanied by a tribal, percussion-driven track.
This slot distinguishes itself through small, but neat, innovations.
Where most slots tend towards a five by three playing area, Raging Rhino shifts things just a little by having six reels of four rows each.
It also has an any way wins system, meaning there are 4,096 ways to win. This is because wins are generated when a symbol appears in consecutive reels starting from the left.
One other nice touch is the addition of a small reader at the top of the reels which indicate relevant rules and show the location of winning symbols on a small map of the reels.
The Wild symbol substitutes for all symbols except the Scatter symbol.
Three or more Scatters anywhere on the reel trigger a free spin bonus with 8 spins for three Scatters, 15 for four, 20 for five, and 50 for six.
During the Free Spins, further Free Spins can be triggered and all Wilds on reels two to five have a x2 or x3 multiplier applied to their wins.
The return to player of this game is 95.91%, this is close to our yardstick for average of roughly 96%.
The range of bets on the site we tested ran from a minimum bet per spin of $/£/€0.40 up to a maximum of $/£/€60.00 per spin.
The volatility of this game is between medium and high, which makes it a reasonable match for our preferred slot machine strategies. Our slot strategies target the highest possible volatility in the slots we chose.
Just on the basis of its mathematics, we are predisposed towards Raging Rhino. Its average RTP is neither good nor bad. But coupled with high volatility, it makes this a great slot to use with our slot strategies.
On top of this, Raging Rhino comes with an interesting take on familiar styles, themes, and even gameplay and visual design.
We strongly recommend this one.
