Theme and Story Line

Candy Bars is a chocoholics delight. Themed around all manner of sweet treats, this slot machine doesn’t have a story line but with the exception of the lucky sevens its pretty relentless in its brightly coloured high-fructose corn syrup driven theme.

It’s the perfect place to get some sugar and win a little cash.

Graphics, Sounds and Animations

The slot is well designed. The bright colours make everything clear, the symbols are well drawn cartoon sweets each of which has a face that conveys character.

The animations are clean, the resolution high, and the soundtrack suitably cheerful and hyperactive.

Overall it is a well designed slot with the usual expense IGT puts into their visuals.

Gameplay

Candy bars is a 50 winline game with four reels. The number of lines is fixed which limits your ability to control volatility and bet sizing, but due to the reel design you wouldn’t want to be playing less than the maximum.

The reason for this is that the symbols are stacked on each reel so when you do hit, you tend to hit on many winlines at once. This stacking also affects the progressive jackpots (see below for details).

The progressive jackpot is one of the unique selling points of the game and does motivate you to stick with the game rather than switching to other slots.

The other unique selling point is that the stacked lines can ‘blackout’ all four reels which provide massive payouts. "Blackouts" happen when every symbol on every reel matches up.

Wilds, Bonuses and Free Spins

There are a two special symbols in Candy Bars. Chocolate background symbols and the 2x symbol.

The 2x bonus acts as a wild symbol, standing in for all others. If you complete a winline using a 2x the payout doubles, with two it quadruples. The four times multiplier is the highest possible since 2x appears only on reels two and three.

The backgrounds of some symbols on each reel are replaced by chocolate. By filling the reels from two onwards with these chocolate background symbols you can trigger the progressive jackpots.

Fill reel two with chocolate and you win the "Snack Size" jackpot, fill two and three and you get the bigger "King Size" jackpot and fill reels two to four and you with the biggest jackpot of all: the "Giant Size" jackpot.

Each time you spin the reels these jackpots increase little by little. They reset when you leave the game, however.

The blackout system mentioned above also triggers huge bonus wins. If you get lucky enough to fill every reel with the same symbol you win between 5,000 and 25,000 coins in addition to the line payouts.

Bet Sizes, RTP and Variance

The RTP on this slot machine is billed as 94.89% which although a little low is about standard for a game with variance as high as Candy Bars.

The bet sizes are somewhat limited by the fact you cannot choose how many lines to play.

Outside of the bonuses and blackouts the payouts are fairly small with the highest single line payout being just 100 coins (against the minimum of 75 coins per spin).

Conclusion

Candy bars is a cheerful, fun slot machine with a couple of interesting features and an pleasingly high volatility that works well with our preferred slot strategies.

It’s main downsides are a lack of variation in gameplay and its quite low RTP.

Overall however we recommend the game for its design features and high variance.
