Genie Jackpot Megaways cashes in on the popularity of Walt Disney’s Aladdin, without awkwardly bumping up against the Mouse’s copyright claims.
As a result, this Genie doesn’t have the charms of Robin Williams’s extraordinary voice performance, but if you get lucky he does grant your wishes. Providing your wish is a reasonable return to player.
The slightly gaudy style works well with the ersatz Arabian stylings of the slot and the atmosphere it generates is as otherworldly as any of Sheherezade’s 1,001 tales.
Whether the player buys into this slot will depend on whether the somewhat odd visual tone works for them. The colour palette is lifted from the more magical sections of Disney’s opus, but the actual style of the slot doesn’t quite match.
The result is something that looks a little spraypaint mural-like, which can look cheap or pleasing as per the player’s personal taste.
The music is well-chosen, although it is put thoroughly front and centre of the stage and so may irritate players faster than a more ambient track would.
The rest of the sound design and animations are solid, working to create a unified and polished feel. Unfortunately, that polish is on a plastic lamp, rather than a golden one.
The 'Megaways' in the title of this slot indicates that it uses the Megaways system. This puts together any way wins style of calculating win lines and a randomised number of symbols (between two and five) on each of the six reels.
Any way wins means that wins occur for matching symbols in adjacent reels, running from reel one to the right, no matter where on the adjacent reels those symbols fall.
As a result, the number of ways to win varies from 64 up to 15,625.
Coupled with the random features and the multiple bonuses (details below), there is plenty to engage the player in this slot. There are four random features which add either additional winning symbols or additional wilds to the reels.
The Wild symbol substitutes for all symbols except the Scatter symbol, and appears on all reels except for reel one.
Hitting three or more Scatters results in a payout and triggers the Free Spin Bonus.
Three Scatter Symbols on the reels reward the player with ten free spins, four Scatter Symbols give the player twelve free spins, five Scatter Symbols award fifteen free spins, and six Scatter Symbols result in twenty free spins.
The Free Spin Bonus starts with the player choosing one of four lamps, each lamp having a feature behind it. The chosen feature is active during the subsequent free spins.
The four features are:
Impatient players can buy directly into the Bonus features for one hundred times the line bet.
The return to player of this game is 96.52%, a good chunk over our yardstick for average of roughly 96%.
The range of bets on the site we tested ran from a minimum bet per spin of $/£/€0.10 up to a maximum of $/£/€10.00 per spin. This is an oddly low range but other casinos may offer a better spread. As is, that range should work for all low and medium stakes players, even if the high rollers are left out in the cold.
The volatility of this game is medium, which makes it a poor match for our preferred slot machine strategies. Our slot strategies target the highest possible volatility in the slots we chose.
While visually somewhat kitsch, Genie Jackpots Megaways is a well-made piece of kit. The gameplay and bonuses are fun and varied and it sports a pretty decent RTP of 96.52%.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t work with our slot machine strategies, but for players who don’t mind the medium level volatility, this could be a good choice.
