It is the greatest show on earth, the big top, the ring, and a troupe of ghoulish clowns not to mention an RTP of 96.68% coupled with high volatility. Welcome to the Circus of Horror!
Read full reviewNowadays clowns seem to get a relentlessly bad rep. Once upon a time, they were childrens’ entertainers and circus performers. Now they just seem to be villains in horror movies.
This is a fact that GameArt have taken advantage of in their Circus of Horror slot, rendering any number of terrifying villains in circus dress for the symbols and setting up a sinister and decaying fairground as the background setting for the slot.
It is a pretty lively horror slot, but maybe not for the faint hearted.
The graphics on this slot are a bit busy, with overly detailed symbols and a lot of little designs cluttering up the background and screen. It would probably look alright on a larger screen but on your average computer or phone, it looks crowded.
The music is decent but only comes on during the spins making for a frustrating stop-start to it that prevents it from becoming background noise and so it never gets to pull its weight in creating an atmosphere.
The main game is a simple five by three slot, more or less bog-standard in this field. But it comes with some nice bonus features to spice things up, including expanding and sticky Wilds and a gamble feature.
There are 243 win ways. This means that you can win for any symbols in consecutive reels running left to right.
There are three special symbols.
The first special symbol is the Wild, which substitutes for all symbols except for the Bonus and Scatter symbols. There are two random features which can be triggered when you hit a Wild. The Knife feature occurs in the base game and pins the Wild in place for the next spin. The Bloody Wild feature occurs during free spins and causes a Wild on the third reel to expand to fill that reel.
The Electric Chair bonus is triggered if you manage to hit three or more Bonus symbols anywhere on the reels. During this you pick from 9 body parts to electrocute until one fails to electrocute. Each electrocuted body part gives you a random cash prize. If you hit eight body parts without the leccy failing, you get you your winnings doubled.
The Scatter symbol pays out for three or more anywhere on the reels, but will also reward you with 8, 12 or 15 free spins for three, four or five Scatters respectively. During the free spins, bloody Wilds are activated and winnings are tripled.
The return to player of this game is 96.68%. This is alright. Our rough yardstick is 96% so this is somewhat better than that.
The range of bet on the site we tested was $/£/€0.10 to $/£/€100.00 which more than comfortably covers the majority of players’ bankrolls.
The volatility of this game is high, working perfectly with our preferred strategies. In fact, overall the statistics on this game are very promising.
Although visually rather messy, Circus of Horror is a pretty well put together game.
Most importantly for the player though its statistics are the kind we like to see. The return to player is a little better than our chosen yardstick and the volatility is high enough to work with our preferred strategies.
We can, therefore, recommend this game to our visitors.
