The player from the United Kingdom had used her husband's PayPal account to deposit on her Betfred account. After a recent win of £600 from a £400 deposit, her account had been blocked. The Casino had cited the use of a third-party account as the reason for blocking her account and refusing payment. We concluded that the casino had acted within its rights to block the account due to the use of a third-party payment method. The complaint was therefore rejected.

Having had issues with my own PayPal account, I stupidly deposited onto my betfred account using my husbands PayPal account. But with his authorisation.


From these deposits I won on a number of occasions and had no issues with withdrawal. Until the other day, having deposited around £400, I won £600 which I attempted to withdraw.


After waiting to receive the funds, I tried to log in but my betfred account is now blocked. I spoke to them via Live chat and they have advised they closed the account due to 3rd party deposits, and will not be paying out my winnings or refunding the deposits.


Where do I stand with this?

Thank you very much for submitting your complaint. I’m sorry to hear about your problem. I have checked the terms and conditions, and this is what I found

 

6.Placing bets with us and playing our games
1.Your funds. The funds you place in your account must be your own and not those of any other person or from a business

 

Furthermore, please check our Fair Gambling Codex for Players https://casino.guru/fair-gambling-codex-for-players:

"Payments
For deposits and withdrawals, you should only use bank accounts and credit cards held in your own name. If you don't do this, you might get into trouble when trying to make a withdrawal. This rule is mostly in place to prevent credit card misuse and also because of international anti-money-laundering regulations."

 

Please understand that this rule has been breached. Some exceptions might be allowed by casinos when depositing or withdrawing funds using a joint card or this possibility is communicated beforehand. Technically it is very difficult to check who’s the owner of the payment method at the depositing stage. This can be checked only during the account verification, which is usually done when a withdrawal is requested. Therefore, it is a player’s responsibility to use allowed payment methods only.

If you’re not able to prove that you are a legitimate owner of the payment method and you haven’t received approval from the casino allowing you to use a third-party payment method, I’m afraid there’s not much we can do for you.

So looking back through my correspondence with Betfred, they actually emailed me back in March saying they had blocked my husbands PayPal as a deposit method, but then still allowed me to deposit from there. Does that change anything?

I checked the email from you and unfortunately, this changes little from our perspective.

Authorization to use somebody else's payment method in order to deposit in an online casino is irrelevant, what matters is the name of the account holder/card holder etc.

I can only advise you to use your own payment method exclusively when depositing in any online casino.

Due to the aforementioned reasons, this complaint will now be rejected. Thank you for your understanding, I am sorry we could not be of more help on this occasion.
