Twin Spin Deluxe is a neon and disco take on a classic formula with the added twist of twinned reels and win clusters. Nice design, but it could use some more features and more volatility in our book.
There is a large section of the slot machine world given over to games that are based on the old one-armed bandit style fruit machine. These old machines, with their single win lines and mechanical reels, created all the main images of slot machines and fixed them in our minds. The one-armed bandit is where the symbols for lucky 7s, cherries, lemons, the BAR symbol and golden bells came into existence.
The new machines take this aesthetic and normally boil down the wide variety of gameplay modes in online slots to something much simpler. They strip out side games, bonuses, multiple winlines and are often played on the same three by three reels as a mechanical fruit machine.
Twin Spins is part of this old style family and uses the same theme, but takes a different tack when it comes to how it approaches it.
For a start there is nothing classic about the graphics. Instead, the background is a computer generated set of 3-D disco floor lights. The symbols are drawn in as neon lights and the music is a pulsing pseudo-disco dance track.
The modernised graphics and sound do work pretty well, with the classic symbols rendered in new fangled ways and the animations slick enough to justify their garishness.
The design shouldn’t work, but it does and somehow manages to still be in the spirit of simplicity that is part of this style of game.
The gameplay also deviates the idea of simple, old style games but still retains that spirit of simplicity. There are no bonus features, no Wilds or Scatters, but in place of winlines Twin Spin Deluxe pays out on clusters of symbols. Nine or more symbols touching each other vertically or horizontally (not diagonally) will pay out.
One additional twist is the Twin Spins of the title in which at least two adjacent reels, randomly chosen each spin, are lined up with identical symbols on each. These can expand to fill any number of reels between two and six.
All this plays out on a six by five grid.
There are no bonuses, wilds, or free spins in Twin Spin Deluxe.
Twin Spin Deluxe has a respectable return to player of 96.61%. While not the highest, it is a little higher than our yardstick of around 96%. This middling return to player is coupled with a middling level of variance, which is too low for us to recommend this slot.
The site we tested allowed bets ranging from £/$/€0.10 to £/$/€100.00 per spin.
Twin Spin Deluxe as a design object is excellent, it is shark like in its simplicity and elegance.
