The player from the UK with a self-admitted gambling addiction set up an account for online sports betting. He is disputing the loss of £13011.90, arguing that the casino has failed to sufficiently restrict access, as it knowingly allowed bets from a person in a restricted area. We closed the complaint becasue the player stopped responding.

Following a rough period in my life suffering from gambling addiction I decided to self exclude from all UK based casinos via Gamstop. My vice was always sportsbetting with the occasional slots play. In an attempt to scratch that itch after self excluding I decided to set up an account, using a vpn to do so which was incredibly easy as the seemingly only barrier for entry was at point of registration and then it was the wild west. No name or DOB entry, no address check, just a spoofed IP and your in.


If you attempt to access slot games from a UK IP you are blocked from doing so. Proving that rollbit are aware of your location even prompting you to 'disable' your VPN to access the game, and additionally proving that they have the ability to block access based on this information. The same cannot be said for the sportsbook section.


Once past the registration point, you are freely able to place sports bets with no restriction whatsoever. It seems that a lot less care was made to restrict access for this aspect of the site, with crypto futures trading not even being as freely accessible.


Having had some experience working in the betting industry in the UK, I know that it is the responsibility of the service provider to restrict access to such services and conform with local authority in doing so, which is why I am disputing the amount of £13011.90, the equivalent of exclusively my lifetime sportsbook P&L, for failing to restrict access sufficiently.
