Treasure Horse is a perfect example of combining the simplicity of a three-reel slot, with real imagination.
At first glance, Treasure Horse is a straightforward example of oriental-kitsch. Red and gold on a Buddhist temple background but the more you look the more gorgeous and distinctive little details pop out.
This is an example of handling an old theme in new ways by Pragmatic Play's development team.
The choice of imagery is from a basic pool. The golden statue of a horse, the square holed coins, lucky 88s and new years money envelopes are all lifted from familiar places, but here are given a bit of life by the care of their design.
The music is a take on Chinese classic music incorporating synthetic instruments, and the animations are minimalist in style, but maximalist in their precision.
Overall the elements come together to form a coherent vision and an immersive, believable setting to play in.
The base game is a three by three slot machine with eighteen win lines. The payouts in the base game are painfully low and come along rarely, but this is because the real profit is to be had in the generous (but rare) Free Spin bonus game.
There are no additional features. What sometimes feels stingy in other slots, here feels like a deliberate kind of minimalism and focus, serving to enhance rather than detract from the game.
The Wild symbol substitutes for all symbols except the Scatter symbol. If you hit three on a winline it pays out x1,000 your bet per line (or x55.55 your bet per spin).
The Scatter symbol triggers free spins if you hit one on each reel.
The Free Spins bonus starts with eight free spins. Further free spins are added when you hit a Scatter symbol; one additional Free Spin is added to your total for each Scatter that lands anywhere during a Free Spin.
During the Free Spins, an additional reel is added which adds a randomly chosen multiplier to your winnings for each spin. Additionally, the symbols on the main reel are stacked for a better chance of even bigger, multi way wins.
The return to player of this game is 96.52%, this is a good half percent higher than our yardstick for the average of roughly 96%.
The range of bets on the site we tested ran from a minimum bet per spin of $/£/€0.18 up to a maximum of $/£/€90.00 per spin, covering most bet sizes for most players.
The volatility of this game is high, making it an excellent match for our preferred slot machine strategies. The higher the volatility the better.
Treasure Horse brings gold standard visual design together with stripped down minimalism to create an excellent three reel slot machine.
The choice of design, imagery and music all add up to an immersive and beautifully simple gaming experience.
We highly recommend to the kind of player who likes their bells and whistles kept to a minimum.
