Shadow Treasure is set in a dark, supernatural temple into which the main character, a red-headed tomb raider, ventures in search of gems and jewels.
Shadow Treasure does a pretty good job of realizing what is a very slight twist on the genre of slots that raid Tomb Raider for ideas. The heroine's crop top is green and her hair is red, but in most other regards, she is Lara Croft-inspired.
The reels have both the jewels she searches for and the key tools of her trade on them — a map, compass, rucksack, and herself).
This slot will work well for any players who enjoyed the Tomb Raider games or who enjoy the idea of a jungle adventure.
The graphics, sounds, and animations of Shadow Treasure all contribute to a spooky, jungle temple atmosphere.
The artwork is dark and green-hued with frightening statues overlooking the reels that seem like they might come to life at any moment.
On the soundtrack, ambient jungle sounds mix with an eerie choral track. The win and spin sounds are kept low-key so as not to disturb the rest of the medley.
Animations are fairly simple, but they are clear and work in time with the sounds to create a seamless playing experience.
Nothing about the visuals stands out, but that is partly because it gets everything pretty much right.
Shadow Treasure gives the player five reels on which to hunt for their hidden booty. Each reel has four rows of symbols and wins are calculated along a set of 14 win lines.
At the top of each of the five reels is a multiplier window. These multipliers are randomized for each spin and range from x2 to x500. The first reel is always x2, and subsequent reels have a higher multiplier than the previous reel).
When the player hits a winning combination, the winning symbols are locked in place the rest of the symbols are spun again. If there is a new winning combination added to the reel, then the respins keep coming until it stops. Then the win is calculated and the spin ends.
When every symbol on the first reel is used in a winning combination, the first reel's multiplier is unlocked. This then allows the player to unlock the second reel's multiplier and so on. The highest unlocked multiplier is applied to any winning combinations at the end of the spin.
Most slot games have a maximum win, for Shadow Treasure, this is capped at 12,000x the player's bet.
The Wild symbol can be used to complete winning combinations with any symbol except the Scatter.
If the player hits four or more Scatters in one spin, the Free Spin Bonus is triggered. The player receives 15 free spins, plus 5 additional free spins for every Scatter above four. However, the maximum number of free spins is capped at 45.
During the Free Spin bonus, the multipliers unlock whenever a reel is full, there is no requirement for the reel to the left to be unlocked as in the base game. Plus, instead of just applying the highest multiplier, all the unlocked multipliers are added together. This can create some huge wins if the player gets a good set of full reels.
Shadow Treasure has a return to player (RTP) of 96.29%. This is a little over our yardstick for an average of roughly 96%, so we're pretty happy with those numbers.
The range of bets on the site we tested for Shadow Trease started nice and low with a minimum bet of $/£/€0.10 per spin. This then went up to a maximum of $/£/€100 per spin, covering a pretty typical spread of bet sizes.
Shadow Treasure is a medium-high volatility slot. This will appeal to anyone using our preferred slot strategies as we tend to look for higher volatility slots.
Shadow Treasure is one of those slots that isn't great, but is consistently above average.
The style and design are better than they need to be, the volatility and RTP are both a little above average, and the gameplay is fairly simple, with just enough of a twist to keep things interesting and make the game stand out.
Overall, this is a really solid slot that is a lot of fun to go adventuring with.
