With so many Egyptian-themed slots on the market, it is difficult to do something different with the theme. However, Pragmatic Play has achieved this with Gears of Horus. The slot looks excellent. The reels are set inside an Egyptian temple, with steampunk technology surrounding the grid.
Scattered treasure lies around the reels, while pieces of robots and cogs are also spread around, fitting into the steampunk aesthetic.
The action in the Gears of Horus online slot takes place on a 6x6 game grid. The slot uses a cluster-pay mechanic, and the grid can expand up to 8x8 thanks to some of the special features we will explore later in this Gears of Horus review.
Wins are formed when players land clusters of five or more symbols on the grid. Clusters count as symbols touching each other vertically or horizontally.
Gears of Horus uses a Tumble Mechanic whenever players land a winning cluster. The symbols involved are removed, and new ones tumble onto the grid. This stops when no new winning clusters are formed.
During the first four tumbles, the grid expands down, up, right, and left in that order. Whenever a sequence finishes, the grid reverts to its normal size. If all sides are unlocked during one sequence, a block of Wilds is added to the grid. This can be anywhere between 2-16 Wilds.
Landing three or more Scatters will trigger the Free Spins round. Three, four, or five Scatters trigger eight, 12, or 20 spins, respectively. A progressive multiplier is active during the round, starting at x1 and increasing by one with each subsequent tumble. For the first four Tumbles, the multiplier will increase at random by x1, x2, x3, x4, or x5.
Gears of Horus has a solid math model. The RTP is around average at 96.06% and the slot serves up a very respectable 10,000x maximum win.
