The battle lines have been drawn in the engrossing mafia-themed slot Eastern Fury.
Rival gangs vie for supremacy in this Pragmatic Play title. Players head into a crime gang headquarters featuring guns, takeaway food, and blood-splattered walls.
Although this is a step in a slightly different direction for Pragmatic Play, it is arguably one of their grittier titles.
Pragmatic Play has opted for a hip-hop soundtrack to accompany this title.
The music isn't over-the-top, nor is it too obnoxious for players to listen to upon entering the base game.
Incisive graphics define Eastern Fury. A menacing tattoo-covered gang member stands to the side of the reels, flashing two golden guns while smoking a cigarette.
The reels are tinged in black, while a dark, dingy basement underlines the squalor of the game.
Overall, the graphics and music sync up nicely in this title.
Eastern Fury plays out on a 5x5 grid, and it comes with 15 fixed paylines.
Wins are formed by assembling at least 3 matching symbols on connecting reels from left to right.
The higher-paying symbol is represented by the red gangster, offering a return of 10x your bet for a 5-of-a-kind win.
Eastern Fury centers around the VS Expanding Wild symbol. When it hits on reel 5, it expands to fill the whole reel vertically, receiving 2 random multipliers worth between 2x and 100x.
If the respin doesn't result in a win, it stays locked in position, and another respin is awarded with 1 more VS Expanding Wild symbol landing on the reel. If that doesn't produce a win, both symbols are sticky, and a VS Expanding Wild appears on reel 3. All 3 Expanding Wilds remain stuck until a winning combo is made.
The Free Spins round is activated when players land at least 3 Gun Scatters. Landing 3, 4, or 5 Scatters awards 10, 15, or 20 free spins, respectively. If one of the Expanding Wild symbols lands on the reels, subsequent Expanding Wilds can land on reels 4, 3, and 2.
In the 'Super' version of Free Spins, multipliers for Expanding Wilds hold values of 10x to 100x.
The maximum win available for Eastern Fury is 10,000x your wager.
The Return to Player (RTP) rate for this game sits at 96.53%. Games with a higher RTP figure are attractive as they offer a higher expected return on bets placed over the long term.
Players can bet on this game from $/£/€0.20, while the maximum wager permitted is $/£/€240.
This game has a medium-volatility rating, meaning wins are more evenly balanced. Our slot machine strategies, however, lean into highly volatile games where you can gain big wins, albeit less frequently.
Eastern Fury may be a bit of an outlier for Pragmatic Play, but the graphics are on point.
The VS Expanding Wild symbol deserves the plaudits, and the DuelReels mechanic is something that we have seen from Hacksaw Gaming.
That said, to get full marks, Eastern Fury needs a higher volatility rating to truly capture our attention.
