As an addiction counselor for people with gambling problems, I unfortunately have to disagree with Mythos 3. Online casinos are definitely more addictive than land based gambling.

The reasons are manifold: constant availability, higher speed, higher stakes and higher loss frequency, virtual and therefore faster access to money (account access versus having to withdraw cash), less social control, since games can take place more unnoticed, etc.

In my consulting practice, I experience every day that people who play online become addicted much faster and are much more in debt than people who play real machines.

The max. bet rule is there to make sure that it won't be too easy for the player to complete the wagering requirement. Yes, you can lose faster when you place high bets, but if you manage to win , then you have enough balance to complete the wagering requirement easily.

I also remember a case where casino didn't want to pay out the full amount of winnings only because the player had 11 cents of bonus money on his account. The casino claimed the bonus was still active thus the bonus terms and conditions applied. They didn't care about the fact that the player couldn't even make such a small bet on a slot that he was playing.

When it comes to the point 3, I have to agree with Anita. I sometimes bet on sports and when there was no online betting, I used to bet once a week since you had to place the bets personally. Nowadays, you can even watch the match live and bet for the next goal, yellow card, a corner kick etc. Betting is so fast and easy that you can simply lose track about how many bets you made. You can simply bet on more occasions during a single weekend than I used to bet on during the whole season. That's what makes it more dangerous in my opinion. The same applies to online casinos that you have with you in your pocket. You wouldn't pay 50 eur just to travel by a public transport back from work, right? But you can lose exactly the same amount or even more while playing the casino games on your phone while travelling home.
