It's a very common thing that they ask if you're "politically exposed". For example, they want to know this whenever you register in a casino here in the Czech Republic.

Basically, politicians who are part of the government or have other important roles can't play in the local online casino, but being politically persecuted is a different thing. I have no idea why they wanted to know this.
