Star Clusters MegaClusters is a simple gem-themed slot. The reels exist in a blank yellow universe, while the reels are made up of simple, geometric crystals.
The gameplay format is front and centre with the theme being a simple adornment.
The design elements of Star Clusters MegaClusters are all pretty simple. The symbols are gems, the background is a yellow gradient. The reels have a few bells and whistles but they all keep things simple.
However, the mechanics of the game (details below) lend themselves to extensive animations. The various meters all flash blue and white, this slot's equivalent to a cascade feature involves other eruptions of light. The simple backgrounds change and move as the game develops. Everything is kept in motion to keep the slot visually engaging despite the simplicity of the design elements.
All this is accompanied by music and sound effects that match perfectly the candy-crush-like visuals.
Star Clusters MegaClusters is played on a four-by-four grid of symbols. Winning combinations are made up of any group of five or more matching symbols that are in contact vertically or horizontally.
The MegaClusters system removes any winning symbols and replaces them with four smaller symbols. If a winning combo results that involves these smaller symbols, those symbols are re-spun after being removed. Each time this happens, it is called a Reaction.
This process repeats until no new winning symbols occur.
The Wild symbols substitute for all other symbols. There are two kinds of Wild symbols: Wilds and Gold Wilds.
Gold Wilds function like regular Wilds. However, they have a multiplier attached. The multiplier starts at one, but with each win that includes a Gold Wild, the multiplier increases by one. At the end of a spin, the multiplier resets to one.
If a player has five or more reactions in one spin, they trigger the Free Spin bonus. The player gets two free spins, plus an additional free spin for every reaction over five in the triggering spin.
Players can earn two additional free spins for every ten Gold Wilds they hit. The Gold Wild multiplier does not reset during Free Spins.
The return to player of this game is 96.54%, a good half of a percentage point above our yardstick for average of roughly 96%.
The range of bets on the site we tested ran from a minimum bet per spin of $/£/€0.20 up to a maximum of $/£/€20.00 per spin.
The volatility of this game is high, which makes it a good match for our preferred slot machine strategies. Our slot strategies target the highest possible volatility.
Star Clusters MegaClusters is an excellent slot.
The MegaClusters system is a recent but welcome addition to the realm of slot mechanics. This version of it is a pretty bare bones set up from a thematic point of view, but the combination of good gameplay, high volatility and a decent RTP leave us pretty enamoured with this slot overall.
It gets our recommendation.
