Extra Chilli Megaways is a fun new slot from BTG, using the ambience of a South American market for its setting and the spicy hot chillies that grow in the New World for its iconic symbols.
The bustle and colours of the marketplace make for a lively setting that is realised through excellent sound and visual design.
The sound, in particular, should be singled out for praise. The subtle soundscape created by the murmur of voices blend seamlessly with the more prosaic reel and win sound effects. The overall effect is an excellent, immersive experience.
This is assisted by the slick animation of stylised symbols that help make Extra Chilli Megaways a delight to play and enjoy.
The base game for Extra Chilli Megaways is played on six reels with an any way wins system. In this system, wins are given for symbols anywhere on each reel so long as they are consecutive and start from the leftmost reel.
The number of symbols on each reel is randomised (between two and six symbols). There is also an Extra Reel that adds symbols to the bottom of reels two to five. As a result, the number of win ways can vary from 324 to 117,649.
When a winning combination is hit this triggers a Reaction. A reaction is where the winning symbols are removed from the reels and new symbols fall down from above (or from the right on the Extra Reel).
The Wild symbol substitutes for all symbols except the Scatter symbol and the Feature Drop symbol.
The Scatter symbol serves to trigger the bonus feature. Three Scatters gets you eight free spins and every additional Scatter nets your four more free spins on top of that.
When the Free Spins are triggered the player is offered the chance to either play their free spins immediately or to gamble. With this Gamble Feature you can win up to twenty-four free spins, however, you can lose all your free spins if you lose.
During the free spins, a multiplier is added to each win as you win it. After each win the multiplier increases by one. You can also win additional free spins if three or more Scatters fall in the Extra Row. Four more spins for three and eight spins for four.
If you just can’t wait for the Scatter to land you can use the Feature Drop to buy your way into the feature. Feature Drop symbols can land on the reels during regular play and will reduce the price for buying into the Free Spin feature by the number on the symbol. When the price reaches zero the free spins are triggered automatically.
The return to player of this game is 96.82%, this is a good bit above the yardstick we use of 96%.
The range of bets on the site we tested ran from a minimum bet per spin of $/£/€0.20 up to a maximum of $/£/€20.00 per spin. This is a rather low range for anyone who likes playing for the really big bucks but should take care of the most common bet ranges.
The volatility of this game is medium, which makes it a little too low to match very well with our slot strategies.
Extra Chilli Megaways is delightful slot with some fun gameplay quirks and a well realised setting and atmosphere.
The only downside from our point of view is the medium volatility. However, for players who are less concerned about maximising volatility this could be a great slot for you.
