Theme and Storyline

Space Gems is a version of that classic gem based slot that most of us are familiar with. The main twist here is that the addition of the word "Space" has given the designers free reign to really jazz the style up on these gems.

It makes for a pretty pleasant scene visually, but it lacks story elements and atmosphere.

Graphics, Sounds and Animations

Some of that atmosphere is earned back by the trippy musical tracks and the well designed sound effects, but on the whole the game is an example of good-but-not-great in the design stakes.

The symbols are pretty enough but are still really just variations on diamonds, and the animations are what you would expect from a higher end slot machine, without doing much with the standard formulas.

Gameplay

The gameplay is relatively basic, but this is by design. There are no bonus free spins.

Instead there is a simple reward for hitting a Wild (see below for details), and a simple gamble feature in which you choose between two gems making for a coin flip, double or nothing which can be used to add variety or just to ramp up the variance.

The Wild symbol, in addition to playing as any other symbol, also expands to fill the whole reel, and awards a respin. This can be retriggered if you land another Wild on the respin.

Space Gem has a cool feature whereby you can set the volatility yourself to either high, medium or low. It changes the frequency of the symbols to ensure the payouts come at the right rate.

At all volatilities, the return to player is 96.40%, which is fairly middle of the road.

Conclusion

Space Gems is a somewhat plain, but solidly built slot machine by Wazdan. It doesn’t offer much, but what it does offer is well made.
