Ramses Revenge review

Theme and Style

Ramses Revenge puts the player in the shoes of a 1920s explorer who is working hard to uncover the secrets of an ancient tomb.

The player is given a top-down view of the dig site with spades and rubble arranged beside the reels. On the reels are various ankhs, jewels, and heads of statues. The player must extract as much treasure as they can without triggering the revenge of Ramses.

This slot gives players a fun version of archeology with the threat of mummies and curses to keep things a bit more interesting.

Graphics, Sounds and Animations

Relax Gaming has taken a combination of soft-edges and low-polygon count to create something that feels somewhere between an old computer game and a ligne claire comic book.

These graphics are rendered in very high quality with fun little animations for the win and spin states as well as things like the transitions between the base game and the bonus features (this last one includes a little mummy who attacks your Scatter symbols, turning them into Wilds).

The music is suitably cinematic and works with the art style and setting to create an immersive playing experience for the punter.

Gameplay

Ramses Revenge is a big slot with six reels of four rows each. The game uses an anyway wins system to calculate winning combinations.

This just means that the symbols can be anywhere on the reels so long as they are consecutive reels starting from the leftmost reel.

The maximum win on any given round is capped at 49,996x the player's bet.

Wilds, Bonuses and Free Spins

The Wild symbol has an image of a mummy on it (presumably the titular Ramses). These Wilds substitute for all other symbols except the Scatter.

Additionally, Wild's can have multipliers attached to them. A Wild with a multiplier applies that multiplier to any winning combination that it is a part of.

Two Scatters anywhere on the reels will trigger the Free Spin Bonus. This bonus starts with six free spins.

The on-theme twist of this slot is that whenever a Scatter symbol — which has an image of a tomb raiding explorer on it — lands during the Free Spin Bonus. The nearest Wild symbol, with its image of a Mummy on it, moves to the Scatter and replaces it. In the process, the Wild gains plus one to its multiplier.

The Free Spin Bonus continues until the six spins are used up.

Ramses Revenge also has a second bonus game. This one is called Mystery Sandstorm and is triggered randomly during the base game. During the Mystery Sandstorm symbols are revealed in sequence on a new set of reels. These symbols then pay out and the play comes to an end.

Bet Sizes, RTP and Variance

The return to player (RTP) of Ramses Revenge is 96.15%, which is a little better than our yardstick for average which sits at roughly 96%.

The range of bets on the site we tested ran from a minimum bet per spin of $/£/€0.10 up to a maximum of $/£/€1,000 per spin. This is a big range, especially at the top where four-figure spins are rare. Naturally, your mileage will vary based on where you prefer to play.

Ramses Revenge is a very high volatility slot. This is great as it makes the slot a good match for our preferred slot machine strategies. These slot strategies use the highest volatility we can find.

Conclusion

Ramses Revenge immediately sells itself with its unique art style. The tomb-raiding slot set in ancient Egypt is so common that it is practically its own genre. However, Ramses Revenge manages to stand out among a wide pool of competition.

This fun design is coupled with classic gameplay with a mummy-themed twist, great animation, and a combination of good RTP (96.15%) and high volatility.

Overall, we can happily recommend this slot.
