By now, you're probably used to seeing emojis everywhere: from your social media and messaging apps, to your email inbox. So we can't say we were too surprised to find that emojis have made their way into slot games, too.
The Emoji Riches slot game - by PG Soft - is played on a plain blue background, so the emoji icons are the real stars of the show. You'll notice encouraging instant message-style bubbles of text running along the bottom of the screen, mimicking a messaging app. The soundtrack is a vibrant, dancey tune, exploding with jangles and pops when symbols land.
As you might expect from a game about emojis, this slot is built for mobile gameplay. You can play in portrait mode, so the grid takes up your entire screen on your phone.
Some of the most popular emojis appear on the reels as high-paying symbols. Look out for the heart eyes emoji and the sunglasses emoji, which award the biggest wins. There's also a cute dog emoji, and even the poop emoji makes an appearance.
After every spin, you'll be paid out for any Clusters of the same emojis that land touching each other on the reels. You'll need a Cluster of at least five of the same emoji to trigger a win. All symbols that are not involved in a win will explode, allowing new symbols to fall into place on the grid. These explosions continue until there are no more winning combinations left.
Wild symbols can appear during any spin, and they hold Multipliers, which will increase by two for every Wild shown on the grid. All Wilds and Scatter symbols remain in place until the end of the spin, once all Cascades have finished.
Three Scatter symbols landing anywhere on the grid will trigger the Free Spins feature, where you'll get 10 spins. For each additional Scatter, you'll receive two spins, plus the bonus round can be re-triggered. Wilds also increase the Multipliers during the Free Spins round.
Your bet size and bet level combine to create your total stake. You can spin from $/€/£0.30 a go, all the way up to $/€/£90, and you can win up to 25,000x your stake.
The Return to Player (RTP) percentage of the game is quite impressive, at 96.78%, and the volatility is rated as medium. In general, we tend to prefer games with higher volatility, as they tend to be more exciting, but this level gives you the chance to land more frequent wins, even if they're smaller.
One of our favorite things about Emoji Riches is how generous the maximum win amount is. A lot of slots don't have a maximum win of anywhere near 25,000x, so that made the game stand out for us. Overall, Emoji Riches is a bright, colorful, and light-hearted game, which will definitely appeal to the social media lovers out there.
