Go crazy for fruit with the crazy fruit bats of Fruit Bat Crazy. This fun twist on the fruit machine theme pleased us, just a shame about the underwhelming return to player.
Fruit machines are a standard part of the slot machine landscape and have been since the one armed bandit was invented. Fruit bats are an adorable fluffy creature that looks more or less like a puppy with wings, plus it eats fruit. Betsoft’s act of genius was taking these two things and mashing them together to create Fruit Bat Crazy.
The theme fills the screen with cutesy cartoon bats and fruit and more or less leaves it at that. All the usual fruit machine symbols are there: cherries and melons, of course, but also the bells, sevens and a diamond for the Wild symbol.
The graphics are well rendered with a pleasing cartoon style and although the animations are simple, they are effective and highlight all the right moments of the gameplay.
The music too, is best described as simple and effective, where most background music tracks get old fast, this is sufficiently rhythm based, rather than melodic, and so becomes irritating at a far slower pace than most tracks.
Overall the design choices are extremely well made.
Fruit Bat Crazy plays out on a five by three grid. Grid is a better descriptor than reels for this game since there is a cascade mechanic that removes winning combinations one by one and allows new symbols to drop down from above.
Additionally, the gameplay is based around a 243 win ways system which pays out for any symbols in three or more consecutive reels starting from the leftmost reel. This is regardless of where they sit on those reels.
There is also a gamble system that allows you to play double or nothing in a heads or tails minigame. This can be done with half of your winnings on a given spin or for the whole enchilada.
Like several of Betsoft’s output, Fruit Bat Crazy allows you to purchase the free spins feature for ninety times your bet per spin. You can see the details for the free spin feature below.
However, Betsoft’s version of this buy in feature also includes a Coin symbol which reduces the price of the free spins bonus if you land it anywhere on the reels.
If you collect enough coins the free spins will start automatically for free.
There are two special symbols in this game (not including the Coin symbol). The Wilds which substitute for any symbol except the Scatter, and the Scatter (or Fruit Bat symbol).
The Scatter pays out from one times your bet per spin for two symbols up to two hundred and fifty times your bet for filling all fifteen slots with Fruit Bats. In addition to this, hitting three or more Scatters triggers a minimum of ten free spins for three symbols up to a truly huge two hundred for hitting fifteen symbols.
Free Spins can be retriggered.
The return to player of this game is 95.22%, which is rather weak. Anything lower than 96% tends to count against our opinion of the slot.
The range of bet on the site we tested was €/$/£0.10 per spin up to €/$/£50.00. This is a lowish spread, but should only really affect the highest rollers.
The volatility of this game is medium, but you can increase this by using the gamble feature.
Fruit Bat Crazy is a nice, fast paced slot with some great design.
It’s Scatter symbol is fun and the option to buy into the Free Spins makes for some extra excitement for those who want to cut out the base game. However the slightly low RTP does count against it a little.
On the whole though this is a mild recommendation from us.
