Theme and Storyline

Crystal Lotus is a trippy, flower power slot with a range of symbols made up of beautiful flowers all of which appear to have been cut from precious stones. There are also some lucky 7s and Bar symbols to really confuse things but the central motif are these artificial flowers which are gorgeous in a strangely calming way.

Beyond this, there is little more to the theme or story of the slot. We are left to wonder what entity made these strange artefacts, or what alien evolution led to them.

Graphics, Sounds and Animations

The imagery of the flowers is beautifully rendered, producing an oddly cosmic feel with the void-like purple/black of the background.

The real win for Crystal Lotus though are its animations. When you land a win, the whole screen erupts in a kaleidoscope of colours and patterns.

The soundtrack is a floaty synth track that adds to the dreamy unreality of the game and is a perfect complement to the visuals.

Gameplay

Like many Eyecon offerings, the gameplay is a very basic five by three grid without much in the way of additional features. Instead of flashy minigames, gamble features, or bonus features there is the expanding Wilds feature (described below) and little else.

The key modifiable part is that you can play anywhere from one to ten of the ten win lines, allowing you to control your volatility and bet per spin more precisely.

Wilds, Bonuses and Free Spins

There is just one special symbol in this game: a Wild symbol.

The Wild symbol appears on reels two, three and four, and substitutes for all other symbols.

Once the wins are calculated the Wild expands to fill its reel, the reel is held in place and a free respin occurs. This continues until no new Wilds land on a respin.

Bet Sizes, RTP and Variance

The return to player of this game is 96.50%. This is good, but not great. We tend to treat 96% as the middle of our range for rating purposes so this is on the right side of that.

The range of bet on the site we tested was $/£/€0.01 per line up to $/£/€125.00 per spin with a great deal of gradation in between.

The volatility of this game is low, which is not ideal for our preferred strategies but may suit other players preferences.

Conclusion

Crystal Lotus is a beautiful slot to look at, with a zen-like simplicity to its gameplay. It also has a lovely soundtrack, great animation, and calming artwork.

However, the low variance is a bit of an issue for us. If you do not mind low volatility slots, this may not deter you. But in our view, the best strategies match with high variance slots.
