Fu Er Dai – literally "two rich generations" – is a Chinese term for people who are born into money.
The slot machine runs with this theme, with symbols on the reel including an obnoxious but stylish jerk, diamond-encrusted cell phones, and expensive wallets. There’s even a symbol that is just a fat wallet full of credit cards sitting on a fan of cash.
It taps into the same kind of aspirational urge that made shows like Gossip Girl and The OC big hits and does so pretty well.
The graphics for Fu Er Dai are pretty good, with plenty of flashy animations to catch the eye and help make winning feel like an event.
The art style is solid, although the reels and background are rather classier than the symbols which feel a little tacky.
The music is pretty good, evoking a kind of modern twist on the typical "Chinese slot" style of music. It goes well with the world hinted at by the choice of symbols and theme, and ties together the whole slot into one coherent atmospheric piece.
Fu Er Dai’s gameplay shows a kind of stripped-down elegance that is in stark contrast to the taste of its main characters. The base game is a typical five reel by three row affair with ten win lines.
The Scatter and Wild symbols’ roles are condensed into one, and the bonus feels like an extension of the respin system rather than a separate game (see below for details). This adjusts the pace of play and creates variety and continuity at the same time.
The Wild symbol substitutes for all other symbols.
When one Wild lands during a spin, it expands to fill the reel (transforming from a dragon into a girl as it does so), and triggers a respin.
If two or more Wilds land during a spin (or the player hits a second Wild during a respin) then a Free Spin Bonus of five free spins is triggered.
During the Free Spin Bonus, Wilds remain sticky for the following spin. They then continue to be sticky if another Wild is hit on the following spin. Each Wild that lands also adds an additional free spin to the remaining free spin counter.
There is a maximum of 20 free spins per Free Spin Bonus.
The return to player of this game is 96.00%, right in the middle of the rough target area we treat as average.
The range of bets on the site we tested ran from a minimum bet per spin of $/£/€0.10 up to a maximum of $/£/€100.00 per spin.
The volatility of this game is high, which makes it a perfect match for our preferred slot machine strategies. Our slot strategies target the highest possible volatility.
With an average RTP and high volatility, this game works pretty well with our preferred strategies. And if you can get past the failed attempts at taste which the symbols show, the game has elegant mechanics and tasteful simplicity in its workings. Never judge a book by its cover.
This moderately popular slot by Play'n GO probably deserves a wider fanbase. We certainly recommend it.
