Contact your inner Mayan with this fun, slick, and ultra-volatile slot with an RTP of 96.55% and a charming playstyle and bonus system.
Read full reviewThe pre-colonial cultures of South America seem to be an almost endless source of beautifully crafted slot machines, in much the same way that Ancient Egypt seems to be a relentless source of ugly ones.
In Contact, the blocky hieroglyphs and stepped pyramids of the Aztecs are recast into a beautiful cascade-style slot backed by stylised renderings of the jungle and sacrificial ziggurats. It is atmospheric and evocative of those opening moments of 1981’s Raiders Of The Lost Ark.
The graphics are a major selling point of this game. The 3D structure that forms when the symbols fall down to make the grid on which the symbols appear is fantastically animated, drawn and, above all, given fantastic sound design that really sells the weight of the blocks.
The music is ambient, creating an atmosphere without intruding, and therefore eventually annoying the player.
Play'n GO's Contact is played on a five by seven grid. Rather than having winlines, Contact pays out for groups of five or more symbols touching each other vertically or horizontally (not diagonally).
Each spin that results in a win triggers a cascade. During a cascade, the non-winning symbols are removed from the grid. The winning symbols fall to the bottom and new symbols cascade from on top. This continues until no new winning combinations are formed.
There are multipliers up the side that can be triggered if the winning combinations fill the reels up to that level. So if you fill the bottom two rows completely you receive a times two multiplier. Filling it up to the fourth or sixth row will get you a three and four times multiplier respectively. Only the highest multiplier reached counts.
There are no Wild or Bonus symbols in Contact.
Getting winning symbols all the way up to the top row will trigger the Bonus round which starts with three free spins. If you manage to fill the entire grid, then you trigger the Super Bonus round which gives you six free spins.
The free spins in the Bonus and Super Bonus rounds are played on a new grid with additional multipliers on the side and three new symbols:
This selection of bonuses combined with the cascade features means that although the bonuses are rarely triggered, when they are, they go big. This contributes to Contact’s massive volatility.
The return to player of this game is 96.55%, which is a little higher than our yardstick of 96% so it feels mildly positive to us.
The site we tested had a range of bets that ran from the minimum bet per spin of $/£/€0.20 all the way up to a maximum of $/£/€100.00 per spin, which should suit bankrolls of all manner of sizes.
The volatility of this game is very high, which we are big fans of.
Contact is pretty to look at and fun to play, but it also has what we like under the surface of its jungle canopy. With a reasonable return to player and an extremely high volatility, Contact fits with our philosophy and strategies perfectly.
For us this is a strong recommend.
