Big Bass Bonanza was the original title in this series by Pragmatic Play, and at the time of writing, there are over 30 sequels. So, what's so great about this game that it spawned so many spin-offs? It could be the theme, the multipliers, or the money symbols, so we decided to check it out for ourselves.

Just like most of its sequels, the Big Bass Bonanza slot is set underwater. You'll be joined by a fisherman character, waiting to reel in his next big catch. It doesn't look hugely different from older slots like Fishin' Frenzy, but the visuals have a more modern, 3D quality to them.
The soundtrack is a relaxing but upbeat jingle, but the real highlight for me was the bubbling noise when symbols land on the reels. I also liked how the tempo of the background music picked up when two Scatters landed – it really built up the tension as I waited for a third to appear.
The Big Bass Bonanza slot is set under the ocean, with some simple visuals in the background, like rocks and seaweed. The game grid is transparent, so you can see the background behind it, making the whole thing feel more immersive. And rather than the reels being separated by standard lines, there are lines of bubbles.
Pragmatic Play rates the volatility of Big Bass Bonanza as 4 / 5, which is quite high, although later games like Big Bass Splash are 5 / 5. High volatility is a good thing in our books, as it tends to make for more exciting gameplay. The RTP is 96.71%, which is above average and also in line with other Big Bass games.
The Big Bass Bonanza casino game has a minimum stake amount of $/€/£0.10, which should suit most players. If you're a bit of a high-roller, you can amp it up as high as $/€/£250 per go. The Big Bass Bonanza max win is limited to 2,100x, which, in my opinion, is quite low.
The Big Bass Bonanza gameplay is about as simple as can be. The game is set on a 5x3 grid with 10 paylines, and all you need to do is select your stake amount, click on the spin button, and wait for symbols to land on the reels.
To trigger a payout, you need to land at least two of the highest-paying symbols or three of any others. There are also Wilds and Scatters, which we'll tell you more about later.
If you're familiar with other Big Bass slots, you'll recognize most of the symbols. The lure (which pays out 200x for five), rod, and dragonfly pay out the most, followed by the tackle box and fish. Lower-value symbols include the A, K, Q, J, and 10 from a deck of cards.
The fisherman Wild symbol can only appear during the Free Spins round, and he substitutes for other paying symbols. Look out for the Big Bass Scatter symbols, which open up the bonus round.
The Free Spins round triggers if you get three, four, or five Scatters. During Free Spins, Fish Money symbols can land, and they carry Multipliers of up to 2,000x your stake. If the Fisherman lands at the same time as the Money symbols, he'll collect all of the values.
Every fourth Wild symbol re-triggers the round, giving you another 10 Free Spins. When the feature re-triggers, you'll get a Multiplier for the money collection, starting at 2x.
If underwater games are your thing (and maybe you've even tried other Big Bass slots), make sure you don't miss out on this one – it's reel fun. The fish Money symbols are the best possible way to build up your wins, because aside from that, the game is pretty standard, and despite the high volatility, the base game wins weren't huge in my experience. I'd recommend going in with moderate expectations, just so you aren't disappointed. And make sure you try out Big Bass Bonanza free play in advance, just in case it's not your bag.
