Theme and Storyline

The Vikings have always been a classic settlement to be pillaged for themes by slot machine designers. Though rarely are they as stylishly presented as in Viking Clash.

This double reel slot machine sets two clans of Vikings against each other. The red clan on one set of reels and the green clan on the other. Both sides have their own set of equivalent symbols. For example, the reds have a war hammer symbol and the greens have an axe.

Into this conflict comes the player who must use the slot to play the two sides off against each other to get the gold, like a medieval version of For A Fistful of Dollars.

Graphics, Sounds and Animations

The graphics in Viking Clash are excellent. The artwork is beautiful, the background evocative and it is clear that the artists and design team really sank their hearts into putting together the two sets of symbols that are in play here.

The animations that accompany all these are fairly basic but have an elegance to them that keeps them feeling fresh.

The music is a stirring sea shanty of a tune that feels a little anachronistic but is pleasant enough. The rest of the sound design is about what you’d expect. Not as interesting as it could be. But it is solid and lends great drama to the moments when the player is waiting for that third Scatter to drop.

Gameplay

Each of the sets of reels is its own five reel slot, with three rows and twenty-five win lines each.

The two reels aren’t totally independent. For example, the Scatters required to trigger the bonus game are totalled across both reels rather than just one.

There are two bonus features to spice things up, but the medium/high volatility means that players will on average spend the majority of their sessions in the base game.

Wilds, Bonuses and Free Spins

There are two Wild symbols, neither of which appear in the base game.

The Wild Shield symbol substitutes for all symbols except the Scatter symbol. There are no Wilds in the base game; the Wild only appears in Free Spins and is sticky.

The Wild Ship Symbol pays out for exactly three symbols. In all other ways, it works just like the Wild Shield symbol. The Wild Ship symbol only appears during the Wild Ship Feature.

The Wild Ship Feature is triggered at random at the end of a spin in the base game. When triggered, the Wild Ship feature adds a set of Wild Ship Symbols to the reels and wins are recalculated.

The Free Spins Feature is triggered when three or more Scatters land anywhere on either reel or across both reels.

When a player lands the Free Spin feature, each Scatter symbol "launches" a Wild Shield symbol onto a random spot on the other reel. These stay in place for the duration of the free spins.
