Legal online casinos in Michigan (2026) – expert-reviewed and independently rated
Below are our top casinos for Michigan players. We use our Safety Index (awarding a score out of 10) to assess fairness, player feedback, safety, and withdrawal handling based on more than 200 data points. We also verify whether a casino is licensed by the Michigan Gambling Control Board (MGCB), which regulates legal online gambling in the state.
BetMGM review – over 4,000 games and a high player safety rating
Launched in Michigan in 2021, BetMGM is licensed by the Michigan Gambling Control Board (MGCB) and holds a 9.7/10 Safety Index score. This reflects a strong reputation and a low number of player complaints relative to its size. Its score is just below market leaders for safety, FanDuel and DraftKings (both 9.8), and higher than BetRivers (7.9), Caesars (8.2), and Fanatics (9.1).
BetMGM also offers one of the largest game libraries available to Michigan players, with over 4,000 titles. This is higher than Caesars (2,000+) and DraftKings (1,500+). Its game selection includes providers such as Evolution, NetEnt, Pragmatic Play, IGT, and Big Time Gaming. The platform features over 3,000 slots, including high-Return-to-Player (RTP) titles like Blood Suckers by NetEnt, with an RTP of around 98%.
Live dealer games are powered by Evolution, with options ranging from blackjack to baccarat. These games are streamed from studios in Michigan, which gives players an experience closer to that of a land-based casino.
Why BetMGM stands out
MGM Rewards can be used at MGM Grand Detroit – The platform's tiered reward program can be used both online and in person at MGM Grand Detroit's retail casino and sportsbook. Members can also spend these points at other MGM properties across the country and online.
Live casino streamed from an in-state studio – Every live dealer game is streamed from Evolution's studios in Southfield and Grand Rapids, with BetMGM operating a dedicated in-state studio, while some competitors share generic Evolution tables or rely on non-branded setups.
BetMGM is the official partner of the Detroit Lions – Unique rewards offered to Michigan players via Lions Bingo, such as autographed items, are available only to BetMGM players.
What holds it back
Welcome offer is weaker than other MI competitors – BetMGM offers new players a 100% deposit match (up to $1,000) with a 15x playthrough requirement attached. Hard Rock Bet features a $1,000 lossback offer with a 1x wagering requirement, which is a much more player-friendly wagering requirement.
Geolocation issues occur just inside state lines – Players have reported geolocation issues when they are close to other states and the need to reverify their location multiple times within a 30-minute span.
🧠 Expert insight: As a fan of themed slots, we think BetMGM is an ideal option. With the platform giving special access to special releases, you'll have the chance to play games like Friends: "The One With the Multi Drop." Michigan and New Jersey players were the first to access the slot based on the famous sitcom when the game was released in July 2025.
FanDuel review – strong mobile experience and near-perfect Safety Index
FanDuel holds a 9.8/10 Safety Index score, placing it among the highest-rated real money casinos alongside DraftKings and Hard Rock Bet. This score reflects a low number of complaints relative to its size, and a high level of trust. It is higher than that of similar-sized competitors, such as Caesars (8.2) and BetRivers (7.9).
The FanDuel casino app is also highly rated. It holds a 4.8/5 score on iOS (173,000+ reviews) and 4.6/5 on Google Play (107,000+ reviews), putting it ahead of competitors like DraftKings and Golden Nugget on iOS, and Fanatics and BetMGM on Google Play.
The app is responsive and well-organized, with a layout like the desktop version. The mobile browser experience is also smooth, with fewer reported issues than some competitors. FanDuel also supports full-screen scaling on tablets, which improves usability compared to platforms like Fanatics and Caesars.
FanDuel's mobile and desktop layouts are consistent and easy to navigate, and in some areas, more intuitive than platforms like BetMGM, DraftKings, and BetRivers. Each game displays key details upfront, including minimum and maximum bet sizes, jackpot type, and current prize amounts, so there's no need to open individual games to find this information.
Why FanDuel stands out
Free spins are provided daily – The FanDuel Reward Machine gives players three free spins daily just for logging in, with a chance to win up to $3,000. Additional rewards unlock by collecting 15, 18, or 21 symbols over a week, while Caesars generally offers fewer frequent promotions for Michigan players.
Strong welcome bonus – FanDuel offers one of the stronger welcome bonuses in Michigan. New players who deposit $10 receive a $40 casino bonus along with 500 free spins. The 1x playthrough requirement is much more advantageous compared to the much steeper 15x requirement at Caesars and BetMGM.
Live dealer blackjack is cheaper than competitors – FanDuel offers round-the-clock live dealer blackjack for as low as $0.50 a hand compared to BetRivers' higher minimum hands of $1.
What holds it back
Has a smaller library than other platforms – Despite having a large collection of live dealer games, FanDuel's full catalog of games features around 1,500 titles, significantly less than BetMGM's 4,000.
FanDuel's online rewards don't translate to MotorCity Hotel – FanDuel Rewards earned online cannot be spent at the MotorCity Casino (its partner) in downtown Detroit for exclusive perks such as gaming, dining, or booking rooms. Casinos such as BetMGM and Caesars have this capability.
🧠 Expert insight: We recommend scrolling over to the Rewards tab on the mobile app every time you log in. Aside from the FanDuel Reward Machine, offers for existing players appear multiple times a week, such as 'Bet $50 on Monopoly Cash is King and Get 15 Bonus Spins.' Promos are also rotated on exclusive holiday slots.
Hard Rock Bet review – new to Michigan with strong bonus value
Hard Rock Bet launched in Michigan in December 2025. It operates in partnership with the Hannahville Indian Community and holds a 9.8/10 Safety Index rating, placing it among the highest-rated real money casinos in the state, alongside FanDuel.
The welcome offer includes a $1,000 lossback bonus and 200 free spins on Huff N' More Puff. The lossback has a 1x wagering requirement, which is lower than the 15x requirements seen at BetMGM and Caesars.
Hard Rock Bet offers one of the largest game libraries in Michigan, with more than 3,800 titles from providers including NetEnt, Evolution, IGT, and Pragmatic Play. It also features over 75 live dealer games, making it one of the largest live casino selections in the state.
Compared to Caesars, Hard Rock Bet's mobile app is smoother to navigate and switches between pages without noticeable delays. Both the app and website highlight popular games in a ranked format, similar to a 'Top 10' list, which helps players find trending titles more easily.
The Unity Points reward program allows players to collect points online and at participating retail casinos. These points can be used for bonuses, hotel stays, dining, entertainment, sportsbook bets, or free play.
Why Hard Rock Bet stands out
Offers exclusive games – Michigan players have access to exclusive Hard Rock Bet titles such as Hard Rock Rockin' Reels and Hard Rock Bet Gold Blitz that aren't found on any other app in the state.
Jackpots are highlighted – Hard Rock Bet Michigan offers a dedicated section for jackpots on the browser and mobile app. It tracks the prizes, from mini to mega, and shows how much money is going into each one (in real time) to increase transparency.
Live Trivia offers cash prizes – On Wednesday nights at 8pm ET, Hard Rock Bet offers players the chance to play free trivia for paid rewards. It's one of the site's many exclusive offerings and is found in the live dealer games section.
What holds it back
Live dealer games cost more – Hard Rock Bet's live dealer games, such as blackjack, only offer a couple of games starting at $1, with the majority costing $10 or more. FanDuel, on the other hand, offers a better selection of $0.50 to $1.00 titles.
Limited player data available – Since it has only been live since December 2025, there is only a small sample size of player reviews compared to other online casinos in the state that have been active since 2021.
🧠 Expert insight: We suggest checking what the 'Newly Added' section consists of. New games are being added every month, from exclusive titles such as Hard Rock Bet Hotstepper to fan favorite sequels (Huff N' Puff Highrise).

How to size up online casinos in Michigan
Casino Guru experts review every online real money casino in Michigan using a structured process. Our Safety Index plays a key role, combining data on fairness, complaints, and safety.
We only recommend casinos with a Safety Index of 7.5 or higher. This is then combined with playing factors like games, rewards, and UX to highlight the best MI sites. If you want to evaluate casinos yourself as we do, here are the key factors to consider.
Welcome bonuses and ongoing offers - What offers do they offer and how do they cater for players now and in the future?
Loyalty and VIP programs - Tiered systems that reward continued play, not just new players
Transparency of terms and conditions - Are the rules clear and easy to understand?
Wagering requirements - How many times you need to play through the bonus before withdrawing. A lower wagering requirement works out better for players.
Expiry periods and restrictions - How long bonuses last and which games count
Maximum redemption caps - How much you can withdraw from bonus winnings
Wagering requirements are often the most important factor. The top real money casinos in the USA offer low requirements, such as 1x, which are easier to clear, while anything above 50x can be difficult in practice and may limit your chances of withdrawing winnings.
It's also important to check how clearly the terms are explained. Look out for hidden conditions, especially around eligible games and expiry periods.
Maximum redemption caps can further affect value. Bonuses are more flexible when there is no cap or when the limit allows withdrawals of around 10x to 20x the bonus. Lower caps, such as $50–$100 or 3x-5x the bonus, can significantly reduce potential payouts.
Certain terms and conditions or even bonus amounts may be specific to a state. Make sure that the version of the website you are looking at has the correct information pertaining to Michigan casino bonuses.
💡Expert tip: Before claiming a bonus, take a moment to read the terms and conditions. Check whether the bonus applies to the games you play and whether the requirements are realistic.
Games and software – what to check
If you want to assess a site's casino games and software providers, focus on a few key areas:
Game variety – Look at the total number of games and the range available, including slots, table games, live dealer titles, and options like video poker or scratchcards
Software providers – Well-known software providers such as Betsoft, NetEnt, Playtech, Pragmatic Play, Evolution, and IGT tend to offer more reliable and higher-quality games
RTP (Return to Player) – When available, RTP helps compare games. Around 96% is above average, while 97% or higher is strong
Performance – Games should load quickly and run smoothly on both desktop and mobile
Casinos like BetMGM (4,000+ titles) and Hard Rock Bet (3,800+) offer some of the largest game libraries in Michigan, giving players more choice across different game types.
💡Expert tip: RTPs aren't usually displayed in plain sight. When playing an online slot, click the '?' icon (often in a corner of the screen) and scroll through the game rules to find the RTP. You can also use the find tool (hold Control and F on your keyboard) for even faster results.
Safety and security – what matters most
Safety is the most important factor when evaluating an online casino, and it plays a central role in its rating. Our Safety Index measures how well a casino treats players, including how it handles complaints, processes withdrawals, and applies its terms and conditions (T&Cs).
It considers:
Casino size
Player complaints
Fairness of T&Cs
Related casinos
To determine if a site is a safe online casino, it's also worth checking data protection measures, such as SSL encryption and two-factor authentication, as well as responsible gambling tools like deposit limits and timeouts.
In Michigan, legal casinos are regulated by the Michigan Gambling Control Board (MGCB). Many are also tested by independent auditors such as eCOGRA or iTech Labs to ensure fair gameplay.
💡Expert tip: Use the Safety Index to compare casinos before signing up. Keep in mind that even highly rated sites carry some level of risk, and gambling should be approached as paid entertainment.
Banking and payments – key factors
Casinos in Michigan typically offer 7–9 deposit methods and 6–8 withdrawal options. These include debit cards, credit cards (for deposits only), ACH (e-checks), PayPal, Skrill, Venmo, prepaid cards, Apple Pay, and PayNearMe.
Withdrawal speed is an important factor. E-wallets such as PayPal and Venmo are usually faster for casino withdrawals than bank transfers. Transparent fees and reliable withdrawals contribute to a better player experience, making it easier to access funds without unnecessary delays.
Most Michigan online casinos have minimum deposit amounts ranging from $5 (FanDuel) to $10 (BetMGM). Any fees should be clearly stated in the terms and conditions (T&Cs), with no hidden charges.
Poor payment processes can impact our Safety Index, as negative payout experiences can lead to penalties. This means that only casinos with the best payout processes are eligible for top Safety Index rankings.
💡Expert tip: A KYC (Know Your Customer) verification process is required by the Michigan Gambling Control Board (MGCB). Failure to complete one can delay payouts. BetMGM, FanDuel, and Hard Rock Bet offer a more straightforward verification process than others. Make sure your form of identification is up to date; expired IDs are not accepted.
Customer support – what to expect
A reliable customer support team is a must. Each casino's support team is tested on response time, how quickly they resolve issues, and how clearly they communicate solutions.
A casino should ideally have multiple ways to contact the support team, including email, live chat, a phone number, and through social media channels. Customer support is rated from fast and professional to slow or unprofessional. Since reliability can change over time, we retest casinos' support teams.
Most top real money casinos, such as BetMGM, FanDuel, and Hard Rock Bet, offer live chat.
💡Expert tip: Sites that offer live chat can offer you a solution within minutes. If you aren't satisfied with the answer you receive from the first agent, don't be afraid to ask to speak to another representative.
Ongoing monitoring – how to stay on top
The operator ratings on our site are not permanent and are subject to change. Casinos are reevaluated periodically to ensure facts remain current.
A change in rating can occur when ownership or management changes, new terms and conditions are introduced, or new complaints arise, potentially lowering its score in certain categories if performance declines.
Our process helps readers stay informed with up-to-date information before choosing a site.
💡Expert tip: We post the date of the last update on every casino rating page. Check this before signing up to learn about new updates and any changes.
Michigan online casinos – what the law says in 2026
Yes, online casinos are legal in Michigan. The Lawful Internet Gaming Act was signed in December 2019, allowing licensed operators to offer online casino games in the state.
As of 2026, there are 15 licensed platforms regulated by the Michigan Gambling Control Board (MGCB). These offer slots, table games, live dealer games, and poker. Players must be at least 21 years old and physically located in Michigan to access them.
Retail casinos are also legal. There are three in Detroit: MGM Grand Detroit, MotorCity Casino, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown.
State law requires each online casino to partner with a licensed land-based operator. In addition to the three Detroit casinos, tribal operators are partnered with the remaining platforms.
For example, the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians partners with BetRivers, while the Bay Mills Indian Community partners with DraftKings.
Sports betting was also legalized in 2019, and all licensed online casinos in Michigan offer it as part of their platforms.
💡Expert tip: Don't use offshore 'grey market' casinos and sportsbooks in Michigan. They aren't regulated by the MGCB. Sweepstakes casinos are also not permitted in the state.
Michigan gambling updates – what you need to know (2026)
January 2026 – According to the MGCB, Hard Rock Bet, which launched in Michigan in December 2025, finished fourth in revenue for January (its first full month) with $23.1 million. It helped contribute to the state's $298.3 million in online casino revenue in January (the second-highest month on record).
January 2026 – Octoplay (gaming provider founded in 2022) launched in Michigan on Jan. 29, 2026. It went live simultaneously across BetMGM, FanDuel, Fanatics, and Rush Street Interactive. Michigan became the second U.S. state after New Jersey to debut Octoplay.
February 2026 – Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer proposed raising the tax rate from 28% to 36% on casino operators earning over $185 million in annual revenue. The proposal is part of the Fiscal Year 2027 Executive Budget Recommendation to help fund Medicaid.
Breaking down bonuses at MI casinos
This section features the most common real money casino bonuses available in the Wolverine State. Any promotion mentioned is currently offered by that operator at the time of writing.
Welcome bonuses – Awarded for new players. Deposit matches are common and may include additional perks such as free spins. BetMGM offers a 100% deposit match up to $1,000 in casino credits + '$25 on the house' as a no deposit casino bonus.
No deposit bonuses – These are bonus cash or free spins that do not require a deposit to claim. They are often awarded upon sign-up. For example, Caesars offers a $10 no-deposit bonus for Michigan, and BetMGM's $25 on the house is one as well.
Free spins – Players can be given or earn free, bonus, or extra spins to use on online slots. They are often available as welcome bonuses. For example, Fanatics is offering new players up to 1,000 free spins on Cash Eruption.
Cashback (lossback) – This is bonus funds returned on net losses (often over 24-hour periods). Hard Rock Bet is offering up to $1,000 lossback in a casino bonus for slots only with a 1x rollover.
VIP/Loyalty rewards – Loyal players receive points, exclusive bonuses such as reloads, and other perks for being a member of a casino. Caesars and BetMGM offer tiered reward programs that award more points as you progress. The highest-point earners may qualify for a casino's VIP program. Many real money casinos also allow these points to be used in person at retail casinos.
Better bonus deals usually feature low playthrough requirements, such as 1x. Less favorable deals often include wagering requirements of 15x or higher. You may also find that you can boost deals with exclusive casino promo codes.
💡Expert tip: Deals can also be good or bad for certain game types. For example, if you prefer live table games over slots, Caesars' 100% deposit match (up to $1,000) applies 0% to live table games and is reserved only for select slots. BetMGM's 100% deposit match up to $1,000, on the other hand, offers a 20% contribution rate toward live table games.
What's on the menu in Michigan
Michigan offers players the chance to play a variety of top online casino games, including slots, table games, live dealer games, and specialty games. We'll give our picks for the best sites to play them at.
Online slots
Slots are the most popular game at Michigan online casinos. Most online slots in Michigan feature RTPs ranging from 93% to 97%.
If you are playing progressive jackpot slots, they offer lower RTPs because a certain percentage (often 2–6%) of every spin contributes to the jackpot.
BetMGM and Hard Rock Bet are among the best sites in Michigan for online slots, offering extensive catalogs of over 3,000 options.
Table games
Table games include real money blackjack, roulette, craps, baccarat, and poker variants (Three Card Poker, Ultimate Texas Hold'em, and video poker).
The RTPs usually range between 97–99.5%, depending on what game you play and the strategy you employ (blackjack is the highest).
FanDuel is an excellent choice for Michigan players due to its variety of blackjack sports-themed offerings, ranging from exclusive titles like Gronk Blackjack to NBA Blackjack.
Live dealer games
For a closer-to-real-life experience, live dealer games are legal and available to play in Michigan. Evolution, a renowned provider, live streams directly from its studios.
Players can interact with each other and the dealer while playing a multitude of games, including live dealer roulette, blackjack, baccarat, craps, poker (vs. the house), and game shows (Crazy Time, Crazy Coin Flip, and Football Studio).
BetMGM is one of the stronger options for live dealer games in Michigan, with 29+ live dealer games and 60+ tables.
Specialty games
Specialty games include titles such as online keno, Slingo (a mix of slots and bingo), bingo, crash games, and instant-win games like virtual scratch cards.
Michigan's Golden Nugget Casino offers many Slingo variants starting at $0.10.

Deposit and withdrawal times can range from casino to casino. Popular options include:
Debit cards (Visa, Mastercard) – Deposits are instant. Withdrawals are often completed within 24 hours.
ACH (bank transfer) – Instant deposits or within a day. Withdrawals can take 1–5 days.
E-wallets (PayPal and Venmo) – Instant deposits. Withdrawals range from 30 minutes to a day.
Prepaid cards (Play+) – Instant deposits and withdrawals usually occur within one day.
💡Expert tip: All casinos will have a minimum deposit, and it may be different from the one you need to meet to claim a bonus. Minimum deposit casinos offer lower buy-in for players looking to play and claim bonuses for less.

Online gambling in Michigan – the good and the drawbacks
Real money online casinos in Michigan offer a mix of advantages and drawbacks that can significantly affect players' experiences. Compared to visiting a casino in person, they offer distinct benefits but also limitations.
✅ Pros
❌ Cons
Higher RTPs online – Michigan's online slots typically offer higher Return to Player (RTP) rates (93–97%) compared to retail casinos, which are often around 85–90%.
Slower withdrawals online – Withdrawals at online casinos can take longer to process, while retail casinos usually provide instant payouts at the cashier.
More online options – Michigan players have access to 15 licensed online casinos, unlike nearby states such as Minnesota and Wisconsin, which only offer retail options.
Geolocation limitations – Players near state borders may experience geolocation issues that can prevent access to online casinos.
Accessible responsible gambling tools – All licensed online casinos in Michigan offer tools like deposit limits and timeouts, which are generally easier to manage online than in retail settings.
Tax obligations apply – Michigan players must pay both federal and state taxes on gambling winnings, unlike some states, such as Florida, where only federal tax applies.
Responsible gambling in Michigan – staying in control
Always gamble responsibly and only spend what you can afford to lose. Gambling shouldn't have a negative effect on your mental health or lead to stress. If you feel it is, don't be afraid to reach out for help.
National and state helplines, such as 1-800-GAMBLER, provide immediate, confidential support. The number can be called or texted.
Gamblers Anonymous is another support option, offering peer-to-peer meetings.
Deposit, loss, and time limits tools are also available at every online casino in Michigan.

How gambling winnings are taxed in Michigan
Any casino gambling winnings, online or retail (including sports betting), are considered taxable income and must be reported on your federal tax return. Here is what you need to know:
Michigan has a flat 4.25% state income tax on gambling winnings (treated as ordinary income).
The state doesn't allow you to subtract gambling losses on a state return.
As of 2026, under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, gambling losses can only be deducted up to 90% of winnings (if you itemize).
Although Michigan generally allows a corresponding deduction for these losses on Schedule 1, it is strictly limited to the amount of winnings reported and can't be used to create a net loss for state tax purposes.
Casinos issue W-2G forms for winnings meeting a $2,000 threshold.
Winnings must be reported on federal Form 1040 and MI-1040 returns.
