A lucky lottery player from South Carolina recently turned a $1 ticket into a sweet six-figure jackpot.
On Monday, the North Carolina Education Lottery uncovered details regarding the incredibly fortunate winner.
The name of the lucky woman, who is a resident of Lancaster, South Carolina, is Patricia Martin, a statement released by the Lottery confirms.
While visiting North Carolina, the fortunate woman bought a ticket for the Lottery's popular game Cash 5.
To her surprise, she emerged as the winner of a $198,217 jackpot.
Martin purchased her winning ticket from B&M Food Service on Lancaster Highway in Pineville.
To win the jackpot, she matched all winning numbers from the Cash 5 drawing on September 9.
Only recently, Martin visited the Lottery headquarters to claim her jackpot prize. However, the lucky winner did not confirm what she plans to spend the unexpected windfall on.
Lottery winnings in North Carolina are taxed at 4.75%.
After the relevant applicable state and federal taxes, Martin took home a sum close to $142,000.
North Carolina Education Lottery's Cash 5 game grants players a chance to win a prize between $1 and a progressive jackpot that starts at $100,000.
The game's drawings are held every night of the week and the cost per play is $1.
Adding an extra $1 unlocks Cash 5's Double Play option which allows the players to enter their numbers into a second drawing where they have a chance of winning additional prizes.
On the other hand, another $1 for the game's EZ Match feature grants a chance for an instant win of up to $500.
Players who tap into Cash 5 are asked to select five numbers between 1 and 43.
The odds of matching five numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 962,598.
On the other hand, a tier-two prize of $250 for matching four winning numbers carries the odds of 1 in 5,066.
The overall odds of winning a prize from the game are 1 in 10.5.
At the time of writing, the Cash 5 jackpot is estimated at $110,000.
Recently, a Roxboro resident tried her luck for the Lottery's Classic Bingo game.
As a result, the woman won a $178,913 Fast Play jackpot.
