Less than two weeks after the launch of a new scratch-off game in North Carolina, an incredibly fortunate lottery player scored a top prize.
The North Carolina Education Lottery's Diamond 10X ticket marked its debut near the start of this month on December 3, 2024.
It hasn't been even a month since the new ticket launch and one Dare County man was lucky enough to hit the scratch-off ticket's first top prize, a sweet $200,000.
The Lottery confirmed in a statement that the name of the lucky winner is Todd Cummings, a resident of Kill Devil Hills.
Recently, the lottery player decided to try his luck with the $5 scratch-off ticket.
Cummings purchased his ticket from the Stop Quik on South Croatan Highway in Nags Head.
To the surprise and shock of the player, his $5 scratch-off ticket turned into a sweet $200,000 windfall, considering that he scored the first Diamond 10X top prize.
Earlier this week, the Kill Devil Hills resident visited the Lottery headquarters to claim his prize.
Cummings did not reveal if he had any plans about the unexpected prize. Still, after the applicable state and federal taxes, the lucky lottery player collected $143,001.
As noted, the North Carolina Education Lottery's Diamond 10X debuted on December 3.
At launch, the game offered a total of four top prizes of $200,000 each and after the recent launch, only three remain in play.
Undoubtedly, Cummings was incredibly lucky, considering that the odds of winning a top prize are 1 in 1,666,395.
Overall, Diamond 10X offers prizes between $10 and $200,000.
A tier-two prize is $10,000 and while there was a total of 10 such prizes at the launch of Diamond 10X, now, only eight remain in play.
The odds of winning a tier-two $10,000 prize are 1 in 666,558.
Lower-tier prizes include $1,000, with the odds of winning such a payout being 1 in 105,802.86. Some 56 such prizes remain in play.
The overall odds of winning any prize from the Lottery's Diamond 10X scratch-off game are 1 in 4.23.
