A restaurant worker in Maryland was pleasantly surprised by a five-figure prize after trying her luck with a popular scratch-off game.
On Tuesday, the Maryland Lottery uncovered details regarding the latest winner from its popular Mega Money scratch-off ticket.
The name of the fortunate winner wasn't disclosed publicly. Still, what's known is that the lucky woman is from Montgomery County.
Described as a restaurant worker, the woman scored a tier-two prize from Mega Money for a $50,000 payday.
The lucky Germantown resident spoke to Lottery officials and revealed that she couldn't believe her eyes once she scratched off the lottery ticket and saw the $50,000 prize.
As the lucky player was scratching off the ticket, a number of $500 and $5,000 prizes appeared. In total, those prizes added up to $50,000, which is a tier-two prize from the popular scratch-off game.
The winning ticket with the five-figure prize was purchased at Sugarloaf Wine Cellar on 12955 Wisteria Drive in Montgomery County.
When asked if she has plans about the unexpected windfall, the Germantown woman admitted that she intends to keep the winnings in her bank account.
The Maryland Lottery's Mega Money scratch-off game grants players a chance to win a prize between $30 and a top prize of $2m.
The cost per ticket is $30 and the probability of winning any prize is 1 in 2.90.
The scratch-off game was introduced on April 22, 2024, and so far, out of a total of five top prizes, four remain in play.
On the other hand, out of a total of eight prizes of $50,000 each at the launch of the game, now, five are up for grabs.
Mega Money is only one scratch-off game out of a wide variety offered by the Maryland Lottery.
The Lottery currently offers scratch-off tickets with costs starting from as low as $1 all the way up to $50 per ticket.
