Lottery player wins $50K Bonus Match 5 prize with Quick Pick numbers

A resident of Washington D.C., who tried his luck with Bonus Match 5 won the game's top prize, the Maryland Lottery confirmed Monday.

The fortunate winner shared details regarding a special system he uses that ultimately helped him win the game's top prize for a sweet $50,000 payday.

The player felt he was on a winning streak

The announcement of the Maryland Lottery did not include the name or the age of the lucky lottery winner. It is likely that the man decided to remain anonymous, and his identity will forever be a mystery.

Still, the winner spoke with a Lottery official, disclosing details regarding a system he uses when playing lottery games.

The lucky Washington D.C. lottery player, described as a retired U.S. Postal Service employee, purchased the winning Bonus Match 5 ticket at Meyers Liquors on 3601 Old Silver Hill Road in Suitland.

After selling the ticket with the $50,000 top prize, the retailer will benefit from a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery.

Speaking to an official from the Lottery, the winner said: "It didn’t faze me at all," referring to the moment he saw he matched all winning numbers.

The fortunate Washington D.C. man admitted that he felt like he was on a winning streak, considering that he matched four winning numbers on a few occasions all thanks to his unique system.

Describing the method he uses when playing, the man admitted that he would look at past drawings and pick five numbers that would appear more frequently. He would then use those numbers and if they don't bring any win, he may even resort to starting from scratch.

Unexpectedly, the man's big win came from Quick Pick numbers.

Still, the man admitted that he will continue using his system.

"If my system gets stale, I will reset and find 10 new numbers or just purchase more random numbers," the man admitted, adding that he still doesn't have plans regarding the unexpected windfall.

Bonus Match 5 grants players a chance to win a prize between $2 and a top prize of $50,000.

The game's drawings are held nightly, seven days a week.

The odds of winning the game's top prize with a $1 ticket are 1 in 575,757, while the odds of scoring the $50,000 top prize with a $2 ticket are 1 in 191,919.

The approximate overall odds of winning any prize with a $1 ticket and a $2 ticket are 1 in 52 and 1 in 17 respectively.
