Lottery players often consider a range of different strategies that in their belief help them win.
Some pick up scratch-off tickets with specific numbers, others play numbers of birthdays or important dates, but everyone hopes for a big win.
One lottery player from North Carolina recently scored a six-figure prize and he was happy to reveal his own strategy.
On Friday, the North Carolina Education Lottery released details regarding the latest person who scored a hefty prize from 100X The Cash scratch-off ticket game.
The fortunate winner's name is Thomas Shadley, a Fayetteville resident, who recently won a tier-two prize from the popular $20 scratch-off game.
The lottery player purchased his winning ticket at College Lakes Liberty at Ramsey Street in Fayetteville.
However, the man had a specific strategy that he followed every time he made a lottery ticket purchase.
This is why it wasn't until 11 PM on Wednesday that he realized that he had won a sweet $100,000 prize from 100X The Cash.
Speaking to Lottery officials, the man recalled the day he realized he had won the six-figure prize, saying: "I saw one zero, then another zero and then another."
"Then I went to wake my wife up to tell her," Shadley said, adding that his wife couldn't go back to bed after hearing the news.
But what was the fortunate winner's strategy? Shadley explained that he only plays the lottery on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The lucky lottery player further outlined: "And I always wait until 11 PM to scratch my tickets. That’s just what I do."
While the man purchased the winning scratch-off ticket on Wednesday, he waited until 11 PM, to scratch it off, following the same strategy.
Last week, the Fayetteville resident visited the Lottery headquarters to claim his prize.
Overall, the lucky man took home $71,756 after the relevant state and federal taxes were applied.
When asked if he had any plans, Shadley said he wanted to take his wife to New Orleans on a trip, to celebrate their 36th wedding anniversary.
Launched on December 30, 2022, the 100X The Cash scratch-off game offers lottery players a chance to win a prize between $20 and $2m.
Each ticket costs $20 and the overall odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.24.
When the scratch-off was introduced, a total of eight prizes of $2m each were available. Now, only two top prizes remain in play while the odds of winning the grand prize are 1 in 1,853,616.
On the other hand, at the start of 100X The Cash, there were 16 prizes of $100,000 each, just like the one recently won by the Fayetteville man.
The odds of winning a tier-two prize of $100,000 are 1 in 926,808 and after the latest win, there are five such prizes remaining in play.
