Some people say that luck comes and goes but others are always hoping for the best.
In the case of a lucky player from Nash County in North Carolina, one woman was absolutely sure that she would win a top prize. And she did.
The name of the fortunate player is Jennifer Conyers, a resident of Rocky Mount and the latest winner of a $1 million dollar prize thanks to one of North Carolina Education Lottery's scratch-off games.
Last week, the player purchased a ticket from the Lottery's popular game, Spectacular Riches.
Conyers bought the $25 ticket from 301 Market on South McDaniel Street in Enfield and went back home.
Once at home, the lottery player was stunned to realize that she had won $1 million from the scratch-off ticket.
A statement released by the North Carolina Education Lottery shed some light on the fortunate woman's recent win.
Speaking to Lottery officials, Conyers explained that every time she purchases a ticket, she is sure that she will get a big win.
"Every time I get a scratch-off I think, 'This is the one,'" she explained.
Once she hit the $1 million prize, the Rocky Mount resident called her son. Surprised by his mother's windfall, her son said: "Are you serious?"
Speaking about her good fortune, Conyers said: "This is a blessing."
Asked what are her intentions about the latest win, the woman admitted to planning on buying a car for her son and paying off her mortgage.
At the Lottery headquarters, Conyers was presented with a choice.
She had the option to collect the full $1 million via installment payments of $50,000 per year for the next 20 years or take home a lump cash sum of $600,000.
The fortunate lottery player selected the latter option.
With lottery wins being subject to relevant state and federal taxes, Conyers' bank account increased by $429,000 and change.
The cost per play for the Lottery's Spectacular Riches is $25.
The game initially rolled out on October 5, 2021, offering players a chance to win prizes between $40 and $1 million.
The overall chances of winning a prize from the $25 scratch-off game are 1 in 4.26.
After the most recent $1 million win, there are no more top prizes remaining in play.
This means that the Lottery will now initiate the process required to end the game.
