A man from Florida tried his luck with a $20 scratch-off ticket and was pleasantly surprised to secure a whopping $1m prize.
On Wednesday this week, the Florida Lottery confirmed that an incredibly fortunate man from Osceola County won one of the million-dollar prizes from its GOLD RUSH LIMITED scratch-off game.
In a press release, the Lottery confirmed that the name of the winner is Andres Hoyos.
The lucky 40-year-old man, resident of Kissimmee, purchased his ticket at Key Food Supermarket on 2340 Fortune Road in Kissimmee.
To the surprise of the 40-year-old lottery player, he scored one of the remaining $1m prizes from GOLD RUSH LIMITED.
Currently, the Florida Lottery offers a range of different scratch-off games.
Such games, besides being popular, represent an important part of the Lottery's sales, considering that for the fiscal year 2023-2024, they represented approximately 74%.
Ever since the Lottery adopted scratch-off games, more than $64.3bn in prizes have been awarded to lucky players.
In addition, some 2,230 people became millionaires after buying scratch-off tickets from the Florida Lottery.
The 40-year-old Kissimmee resident who most recently scored a $1m win from the Lottery recently collected his prize.
Visiting the Lottery's District Office in Orlando, Hoyos selected the option to receive a one-time lump cash sum.
As a result, the fortunate winner's bank account grew by $795,000.00.
Key Food Supermarket, the retail outlet that sold Hoyos his winning ticket will benefit from a $2,000 bonus commission.
Launched in September 2021, the GOLD RUSH LIMITED scratch-off ticket offers players a chance to win prizes between $20 and $5m.
The game offers overall odds of winning any prize of 1 in 2.65.
Initially, there were 32 top prizes of $5m each, but now only two such prizes remain in play.
The odds of winning $5m from the scratch-off game are 1 in 2,362,500.
On the other hand, winning a tier two prize of $1m, like the most recent win scored by the Osceola County man, offers odds of 1 in 756,000.
At the launch of GOLD RUSH LIMITED, there were 100 prizes of $1m each but now only nine such prizes remain in play.
A tier three prize from the $20 scratch-off game awards $100,000.
The odds of winning such a prize are 1 in 630,000 and only six out of 120 such prizes remain up for grabs.
