One incredibly lucky lottery player was on a roll after finding a penny, turning it into $100 and winning a five-figure prize afterwards.
That’s the story of a retired machinery worker from Talbot County, Maryland, who won one of the top prizes from a popular lottery ticket.
The winner, whose identity wasn’t publicly confirmed, revealed that he had a habit of finding coins.
Recently, the man was walking around a parking lot when he saw a penny with the head facing up.
Collecting the penny, the man then decided to use it to purchase a scratch-off ticket.
The man won $100 from that ticket and then decided to try once again. This is when he selected the Maryland Lottery’s 30X Cash scratch-off game.
Interestingly, after the $100 win, the player scored a $30,000 top prize from his 30X Cash ticket.
He purchased the winning ticket at Royal Farms on 32303 Queen Anne Highway in Queen Anne.
The retailer that sold the top prize winning ticket will benefit from a $300 bonus.
In an interview with the Maryland Lottery, the fortunate man revealed that he won the prize right before he was about to start work. This meant that the man had to contain his excitement until his shift was over.
"I was really excited and a little nervous after I won," the winner, an Eastern Shore man, said.
He recently visited the Maryland Lottery to collect the sweet $30,000 prize.
Asked about his plans for his newfound fortune, the man revealed he will save his winnings.
Each 30X Cash ticket costs $30 and grants players a chance to win a prize between $30 and $30,000.
The popular ticket debuted on September 18 this year, offering 320 top prizes of $30,000 each.
After the most recent win, there are 301 top prizes of $30,000 each still in play.
Within the lower prize tiers, players can win various prizes of $5,000, $500 and $200, among other smaller sums.
The overall odds of winning any prize from 30X Cash are 1 in 2.83.
