Play the casino classic Baccarat in this minimalist inspired version of the game from PopOK.
Read full reviewBaccarat from PopOK Gaming is the publisher’s take on the classic casino game of baccarat, also known as chemin de fer.
The setting for the game is an austere and modern minimalist set with the cards dealt over a grey background and writing arranged in a clear business like grid at the front.
This is for players who want to enjoy the old fashioned world of casino card games updated for the modern era.
With the simple, grey-on-grey minimalism that was popular in the online casinos of the late-noughties, the visuals of Baccarat by PopOK feels a little out of date and old-fashioned.
That said, the animations are simple, clean, and clear. The visuals are supported by relevant sound effects that guide the player and clarify the action.
Overall, this game has a very functional look and sound that will probably be polarising. Players will either love the minimalism or miss the more extravagant, detailed, or realistic versions of Baccarat which are available elsewhere on the internet.
Baccarat is a classic game in which the "player" and banker are both controlled by a set of rules.
In baccarat, the winner is the player who scores closest to 9 points. Face cards are all worth ten, number cards are worth their rank, aces are worth one. For the purposes of scoring, you ignore all but the last digit of a score. So, a king and a nine is a total of 19, which means a score of 9 points.
Play starts with the "player" and banker both getting two cards. If either or both player scores 8 or 9, the round stops and the winner (or a draw) is determined.
If both hands score 7 or lower, then each hand draws up to one card based on a set of predetermined rules. Once all draws are complete, the winner (or a draw) is determined. The real player (i.e. you) can bet on either the "player" winning, the banker winning, or a push (a draw in which both "player" and banker get the same score.
The odds on the "player" are 2.00, on the banker they are 1.95, and 9.00 on a push.
Because Baccarat by PopOK is a table game rather than a slot, it does not use wilds or bonuses, and does not allow free spins.
However, depending on which online casino you play with, you may be able to get free bets through various casino promotions.
The rules by which cards are drawn or hands passed on are carefully constructed in Baccarat. As a result, the odds give the player an RTP of 98.76%.
The variance of Baccarat is low if you bet on the "player" or dealer to win. However, you can increase your volatility considerably, by betting on a push. With odds of 9.0, a bet on push will come in much more rarely, but will pay considerably more when it does.
The bet sizes available on the site we tested ran a wide range. The smallest bets allowed were $/£/€0.10. The biggest bet per hand was $/£/€500.00. This is a much bigger range than some games and really allows for high-rollers to get some serious action going.
PopOK’s take on baccarat is a classic, minimalist version visually. It follows the rules and stylings of most online baccarat games and so is fairly similar to any other vanilla version of the game provided by any number of other publishers.
That said, if you like the visuals, this is a high quality version of the game that is easy to use and fun to play.
