Demi Gods II is a great looking slot, with a ton of features and a beautifully realised world to play in. Look no further… unless the RTP of 95% or the low-ish volatility puts you off (which it should, by our standards).
Demi Gods II is one of many slots based around Ancient Greek mythology. Contrary to the title, almost all of the characters who appear in the game are full gods rather than demi-gods, but that doesn’t detract from the fun setting.
The base game is set in a cloudy sky and all the bonus levels take place in more exotic locales ranging from the depths of Hades to Mount Olympus. On the rosters are Zeus and Ares, along with a few other gods, and even the Wild symbols depict the winged sandals of Hermes.
It’s a great setting fabulously realised.
That realisation is done through a really extraordinary visual style. The Ace to Nine symbols do much of the work on the screen but the big winners, the so-called "High Symbols". Each of these High Symbols comes stacked on the reels. The stacking is done in such a way that it allows the artists to do full-length portraits that run across the full length of each High Symbol.
The effect is nice to look at and a fancy twist on the typical arrangement of such things.
On top of this, there is a panoply of animations. Reels catch fire while they spin after a Free Spin symbol falls, graphics fall in 3D from above the screen, and even the backgrounds are given full parallax animations.
The music is ambient drums that are background enough to not get on one’s nerves when they loop around incessantly and every possible opportunity has been taken to add some flavour to the sounds made by the symbols and even the different characters.
They really went all out on the design for this one.
The gameplay is varied and fast-paced. With fifty winlines across five reels and the constant chance of random interventions (like the multiplier symbols), there is always something to look at and look forward to.
There are several bonuses (see below for details) which all add to the experience.
Overall this is a slot with high quality gameplay and lots of it.
The key bonus feature in Demi Gods II is the Free Spin Journey Feature. This is triggered if you hit three or more Free Spin symbols.
There are four stages to the Free Spin Journey Feature, and each time you trigger it you move on to the next stage.
The first is Hades where every time you win, a respin occurs moving all the symbols one reel to the right and spinning up a new first reel. This can be retriggered if it results in another win.
The second stage is Aphrodite’s Bower where you get 5 free spins. On the first spin, the whole first reel is wild, on the second spin, the wild reel moves to reel two and so on until the final reel.
Ares’ fortress is where you go when you trigger the free spins for the third time. In this feature, all wilds expand to fill the reel they land on.
In the fourth and final stage, Zeus will grant you 4-7 Wild symbols every spin. On top of this, all the High Symbols are removed making the odds of winning higher (although lowering the average size of your win per line when you do).
There are also Win Multipliers that can give you a multiplier that applies to any winnings that you have won on that spin.
The game has a standard Wild symbol which plays as any symbol except the Win Multipliers and Free spin symbols. Get five in a row and they pay out 150 times your bet per spin.
Given how luxurious a slot this is, it is rather a shame to find out its rather stingy -- with a vig of 5% the return to player is just 95%, well below the yardstick we use of 96% as an industry average.
Due to being a fixed 50 winline slot, the minimum bet on the site we tested was €/£/$0.50 per spin and the maximum a huge €/£/$500 per spin.
The game is medium to low variance, which means you’ll be winning a lot of the time, but only relatively small amounts when you do.
The game is so beautifully designed it is a pity not to recommend it more enthusiastically, but for us, the vig is just too high.
But if you are not particularly fussed by this there are worse slots to spend your time on.
