Black cats and voodoo dolls haunt this slot machine. Keep an eye out for Baron Samedi and let the game bewitch you.
Read full reviewThe theme of Voodoo is writ large in the title. Voodoo, or Vodun, is a range of religions that combine elements of West African religion with colonial Christianity. It branched out through the Americas thanks to the Atlantic slave trade and became a subject of much fascination in Western pop culture.
This is the well from which Voodoo the slot machine draws, with the image of Baron Samedi, a top hat wearing skeletal supernatural being whose image you may remember being prominent in Live and Let Die.
It is a nice, horror-inflected theme for a slot from Endorphina with cobwebbed symbols and Vodun related artworks.
The graphics on this slot are gorgeous. Plenty of time has been spent rendering even the Ace to Ten symbols in a tone appropriate to the slot as a whole.
The murky green background evokes the modern colouration of horror films and the animations and sound design follow that queue with each symbol giving of eerie noises when you win with it.
The music is a funky blend of rattling bones, sliding scales and low bass beats that suggest the Carribean and horror equally. The music also regularly changes tones in a way that keeps it from becoming annoying the way most loops do.
Voodoo is a five reel slot machine with ten winlines and three rows.
There is a simple gamble feature in which you choose a card which must be higher than the dealer's to win. While this appears to be a 50-50 prospect on the face of it, the reality is that the cards are not drawn without bias. As a result, the average return to player for the gamble feature is just 84%.
There is a simple bonus game to spice this up, but it is, on the whole, a fairly basic game from a features standpoint.
Voodoo has a single special symbol. This Scatter serves as a Wild in the main game, standing in for any other symbol to make winning combinations.
It also pays out two times your bet per spin for hitting three of them on one spin. You then get twenty times your bet per spin for four symbols and two hundred for five.
On top of this three or more Scatters trigger ten free spins. During these free spins, the Scatter does not substitute for other symbols, instead, any symbol that is part of a winning combination expands to fill its reel and winnings are recalculated.
The return to player of this game is 96.00%. This is around what we estimate to be the industry average.
However, if you play the Gamble feature the return to player in that is just 84% making this a bad option for those who like to use the gamble feature to up the volatility of a game which in this case is already high.
The range of bet on the site we tested was $/£/€0.01 per spin with just one line up to a maximum of $/£/€100.00 if you play all ten lines on the highest possible number of coins and coin size.
Voodoo is a gorgeous slot with some lovely sound design. The overall surface gloss is backed up by a solid set of features which, though simple, are satisfying.
The high variance works well with our strategies and the RTP, though not great, is well within our acceptable range.
This is a recommendation from us.
