Theme and Style

Toucan slot is themed around the South American jungle and the various forms of wildlife that live there.

The symbols include several species native to the Amazon including iguanas, tortoises, and, of course, the titular toucans.

This slot will appeal to players who fancy a jungle holiday or love the natural world.

Graphics, Sounds and Animations

Toucan’s graphics are fine but very uninspiring. The style is similar to hundreds of other jungle animal-themed slots and the choice of animals is a bit predictable.

The animal symbols do have a small animation that plays when they win, but this slot is otherwise pretty lifeless (ironic for an animal-themed slot).

The music and sound effects are generic slot sounds that cut in and out a little too abruptly. Overall, the front end of this slot is unimaginative and lacking in personality.

Gameplay

Toucan is played on a set of five reels with three rows each. Players win by lining up matching symbols along any of the 50 win lines.

There are several Progressive Jackpots that can be won during the Special Bonus Respin.

Players can also use the Gamble Feature after a win. This allows the player to play double or nothing (or quadruple or nothing) by betting on the color or suit of the next card off an infinite deck.

The maximum win on any given round is capped at 25,000x of the player’s bet.

Wilds, Bonuses and Free Spins

Wilds substitute for all other symbols except for the Treasure Scatter symbol.

Treasure symbols have a randomized value attached to each one. This is always a multiplier of the player’s bet or the value of one of the jackpots.

When six or more treasure symbols land, they trigger the Respin Bonus. All Treasure symbols are held in place and the other symbols are respin. The player gets three respins, with respins resetting to three every time a Treasure symbol lands.

When the bonus ends, the player gets to cash in for the full value of all the Treasure symbols.

Bet Sizes, RTP and Variance

The return to player (RTP) of Toucan is variable with reports ranging between 88% and 96.5%, depending on the operator. Since our yardstick for an average RTP is roughly 96%, the Toucan slot is a very poor performer that only sometimes tips into above-average RTP, and frequently appears far, far below average.

Toucan is not a very well-made or designed slot. The visuals and style are weak, and the basic user interface is very unappealing.

The gameplay is simple and uninspiring, and the RTP ranges from average to some of the lowest we have seen. The high volatility is a small relief but doesn’t fix the many major design errors that Game Media Works made while putting this slot together.
