About Entropay

Online shopping revolutionized the way we buy things, but in its early days it often faced security threats from hackers who stole customer's card details.

In the early 2000s, however, early versions of digital wallets came along, which acted as a safe intermediary between the consumer and the store. Entropay was one of the pioneers: a now-discontinued method not available for online use, but important all the same.

Set up in 2003, it let users create prepaid virtual payment cards which they funded from their bank accounts. They could then use these in internet stores instead of their own personal bank cards, significantly reducing the risk as they could now only lose the prepaid balance rather than whatever they had in the bank.

The project was a huge success, attracting consumers with its quick service and capacity for allowing up to 30 cards. Entropay even partnered with Visa, meaning that users could buy products at any Visa-friendly site, including Visa online casinos. The service was cheap, with Entropay taking a small commission for each transaction.

However, in 2018, disaster struck. Visa declined to renew their licensing agreement in Europe, so Entropay cards lost their credibility overnight. By July 2019, the service was discontinued, and one of the first big e-wallets was no more.

Entropay's success left a legacy on the online payment market, though. Internet users still needed a reliable digital wallet to store their funds, and many impressive alternatives had sprung up in the meantime.

Skrill is one wallet that is particularly popular with online casino players thanks to its quick service and compatibility with a wide range of sites. Paysafecard is another, offering a single-use card that the user buys with cash and then types a unique 16-digit PIN into the payment section of the website.

Crypto wallets are another alternative for players who want to deposit in sites that accept virtual coin, Bitcoin and Ethereum-friendly casinos being just two options. The likes of Trustwallet and Exodus work on the same principle and are increasing their presence in several different markets. E-wallets are now a fundamental part of the online payment system, and EntroPay helped to set the tone for many modern wallets.

How to find the best casinos that accept e-wallet deposits

If you're looking for a reliable casino that accepts your e-wallet, then you can use this page to help you. The Casino Guru team rates and reviews sites according to strict criteria based on customer service and fairness towards players. This page's filters will help you locate the sites that match your preferences.

To find your payment method, first remove the 'EntroPay' filter in the 'Payment method' section and tick the box of the method you want — so tick the 'Skrill' box for casinos accepting that, for example. You can then find the best Skrill casinos by choosing the 'Recommended' tab to see those that our experts have scored the highest. The 'Newly opened' tab shows you the newest casinos that accept the method, while 'All' will take you to the complete list.

To view a different payment method, just repeat the above process but with your chosen method selected instead of Skrill. The likes of Paysafecard, PayPal and EcoPayz are all popular options with casino players, but their availability will vary according to which country you're in.
