Draw your six shooter and head back to the wild wild West to a time where when money is on the line, and so are lives.
While many a slot machine has opted to go back to the Wild West, most tend to focus on the gold rush period and the accompanying mining imagery. I Am The Law takes a different tack, casting the player as the sheriff of a town beset by bandits and your goal is not to find gold beneath the ground but earn it by putting bad guys there and collecting the bounty on their heads.
Come on, pardner. We ride at sunrise…
The imagery of the game is full of the kind of Western cliches and symbols you would hope for in a slot like this. All of these images are well animated, well drawn and given a lively cartoony touch that is in keeping with the overall style of the slot.
While the game does have a pretty thrilling, Ennio Morricone inspired theme song, it is a bit too slick for its own good and quickly loses that thrill. Instead, it becomes an irritation like so many slot machine soundtracks.
The reel sounds, on the other hand, are an excellent clunky wooden noise that is era appropriate and brings to mind the undertakers business or the rattling of stage-coaches.
There are 25 win lines spread over a five reel slot. There are two bonus games in this game: a set of free spins and a pick-a-prize game (details below), which means the gameplay is a bit samey. This is only a negative if you need constant variation, but do bear it in mind when choosing if you want to play.
The Wild symbol in the base game expands to cover its entire reel and substitutes for all symbols except the Bonus, Scatter and Outlaw symbol. During Free Spins, the Wild symbol does not expand.
The Bonus symbol triggers the Bonus game, which is a pick a prize game where the player gets six chances to win randomised prizes.
In addition to the Bonus game there is a Free Spins bonus, which is triggered by hitting three Scatter symbols. During the Free Spins you are given 10 free spins and the Outlaw symbol is added to the reels.
If you hit both a Wild and an Outlaw symbol on a spin you get one point added to your collection. At the end of the Free Spins you receive four times your bet per collection point.
With a low to medium rating for its volatility, we would not recommend this slot with our preferred strategies which necessitate playing high variance slots only.
The return to player is an acceptable but rather middle of the road 96.00%.
The site we tested offered a bet size ranging from a minimum bet per spin of £/$/€0.25 to a maximum bet per spin of £/$/€100.00. This range is pretty standard and covers most bankroll sizes.
I Am The Law is a solid game with enough variation to keep a player's attention. We like the design choices made by the creators and the return to player is reasonable.
The main issue is that this slot is not suitable for our preferred strategies due to its relatively low volatility. If that is not an issue for you, then dive on in to fulfil that Wild West gunslinger fantasy you have always had.
