Betfred not picking up my GamStop registration

Good afternoon everyone,

First of all I have to take my side of the blame in all this, after all it was my lack of willpower coupled with a really bad day at work that meant I got home and felt I needed to gamble to make myself feel better.

I signed up to GamStop in 2019 for 5 years after I had a big win on a site and thought that’s it for me. I’ve made sure I kept my file updated with changes of address and phone numbers etc.

On Monday evening I got home from work and tried to sign up to Ladbrokes, it blocked me immediately. William Hill did the same. Betfred though on the other hand allowed me to sign up using the same details as on my GamStop file and that Ladbrokes/William Hill picked up.

I made my first deposit of £50 followed by 6 of £100 and 1 of £150, all within a couple of hours. At no time was I asked for ID or was any deposit queried. I felt disgusted with myself and actually went to sleep upset and annoyed with myself, but then that turned to feeling let down by both GamStop and Betfred that this was allowed to happen.

I have emailed Betfred who said the next day "your account has been closed due to GamStop exclusion" and have asked me to forward my GamStop file so I emailed GamStop (tagging in Betfred’s support email) and how I’m just waiting to see what happens.

Like I said, I accept my willpower and mental state let me down but I can’t believe that Betfred allowed me to create an account from scratch and deposit such a large amount of funds. What are the chances of having my deposits returned to me? As I am pretty sure if I had won and I had to send in physical ID they would’ve noticed I’m GamStop registered and wouldn’t have paid out so playing was totally pointless.

Thank you everyone for reading this, and I guess I can say don’t try and rely on GamStop alone. I’m now in the process of chasing up with my bank to see if I can have all betting sites blocked with my account.

Hi, thanks for sharing your story. Honestly, I believe that UKGC is very serious about anything related to responsible gambling. Gamstop is there to protect players from what happened to you. I'd actually believe that your chances are high.

I'd simply start with asking Betfred to return your deposits since you were on Gamestop when you registered there and lost the money. If they refuse, then you can submit a complaint on our website: https://casino.guru/complaints/create

Then there's another option to submit a complaint to UKGC.

Thank you for this, I believe this to be true as well and whilst no system is completely perfect, the fact my name, date of birth and address were all correct show there is a flaw there.

I’m still waiting to hear back off GamStop with my file to forward to Betfred. I downloaded the PDF myself and sent it onto Betfred but they have said they need to be cc’d into the GamStop email.

Case of just waiting now.

Please, let me know how it develops. We currently work on a global self-exclusion system so it's interesting data for us.

Good afternoon,

So I’m having real issues at the moment in communicating with GamStop and Betfred.

Bear with me, basically my email address that i registered with GamStop with isn’t the same email address I used to open my Betfred account (even though that email is on my GamStop file). So I’m having to email GamStop from the email registered to them but this means when I CC Betfred in, Betfred are saying they can’t discuss the account as it’s not from the email that is registered with them.

Its a vicious circle and I’ve tried doing it both ways (emailing both from one email address but then the other can’t comment as it’s not an email registered to them).

Im stressed out beyond belief that this is the case, I’ve been trying to just get my GamStop file sent to Betfred since Monday evening. I’ve sent it to them myself by PDF after downloading it from the GamStop site but they say they can’t accept that.

What the hell? I'm thinking, isn't it possible to change your Betfred email to the one you have in Gamstop so you could communicate with both of them using the same email address? Anyway, this sounds like a very poor excuse and it sounds like they just don't want to deal with it.

It seems that way doesn’t it, delaying tactics by them, really poor.

I have resorted to changing my primary email with GamStop which they say can take 7 days to action, that way at least Betfred and GamStop will have the same main email address on file.

That sounds like a plan! Fingers crossed. Just please, don't lose more money there and wait patiently 🙂

So I’ve finally managed to get GamStop to forward my registration details so that’s one step closer to resolving all this. I’ve just forwarded that email onto Betfred. Fingers crossed this gets all sorted out now.

This just gets even more farcical and annoying! I’ve sent that email onto Betfred and received this back from them. This should be such a simple procedure but somehow they’re making it incredibly complicated, both GamStop and Betfred.

So after now 9 days of emails backwards and forwards I finally get my file to send over and because GamStop didn’t CC Betfred in they can’t accept it. I’m going to have to go through all that again.

That's insane 😲 I can't believe this is really happening 😀

Hey, did you ever get your money back? Betfred also done this to me. While other bookmakers turned me away due to my GamStop self exclusion. Betfred clearly don't follow any rules. I have opened a complaint and will fight it all the way! https://casino.guru/betfred-casino-player-has-been-accused-of-opening
