I'm not too surprised. The gambling industry is extremely important for Malta and they need to protect it. It's not only about the casinos that are officially licensed there, but also about all the foreigners and local working in the casino offices, rental property owners who ask high prices for the rent, because they know the foreigners can afford to pay for it etc.
The whole country is closely related to and dependent on the online gambling industry.
That's for sure. I guess that's not as simple as what's written anyway. But they gotta be careful not to upset local regulators though, if some casinos start being able to avoid prosecutions because of this... 🫠
