Hi, that’s an interesting question. Is something changing in Brazil? Do you mean players will no longer be allowed to gamble, or that there won’t be any casinos where they can play slots or bet on sports?
Would the change apply only to sports betting, only to slots and similar games, or to both? Could you tell us a little more about what’s being planned in your country?
Yes, unlicensed offshore sites can always be a problem, and that’s probably something the country can’t avoid entirely. It would be interesting to know how it tackles the issue, whether by blocking the casinos’ IP addresses or domains, or by taking other measures.
Do you think the country’s decision to ban gambling altogether was a good move, though?
Yes, I see what you mean. I’d just point out that a casino without a Brazilian licence, or one that doesn’t meet all of Brazil’s regulations, doesn’t necessarily use fake games. Some casinos may operate there without the required authorization, but that alone doesn’t mean they’re fraudulent.
That said, players should follow the rules in their country rather than try to get around them by playing elsewhere if that isn’t permitted. Doing so could put them in a difficult situation.
I’m curious to see whether anything changes or some restrictions are eased over time, as this seems to have happened quite quickly. Do you know when your country’s decision takes effect?
I read an article about that and it's covered there:
https://igamingbusiness.com/legal-compliance/brazil-betting-ban-immediate-aftermath/
"Starting 6 October, all licensed sites will be blocked, with bettors having to request the withdrawal of their funds by the day before. If they fail to do so, the sites are required to credit the amounts they hold to the registered accounts between 9 and 14 October."
