Can a casino require a payout to a Norwegian bank?

Hello,

I have a complaint case ongoing with Retrobet Casino regarding the payment of a winning of NOK 50,000. The deposit was made via Revolut which is a Lithuanian bank. Although gambling is not illegal, Norwegian banks are prohibited from transferring bets and winnings for gambling activities that lack a Norwegian license. Does anyone have experience with casinos that use this as a cynical delaying tactic and how to deal with this?

Hello, I have a few ideas, but just to make sure I understand correctly: although you deposited via Revolut, is the casino insisting that your withdrawal must be sent to a Norwegian bank account?

If so, that information would be useful Usually, payment processing depends on the providers and procedures a casino has in place for the specific country, so understanding why a local bank account is required would help clarify where the issue actually lies.

Hi and thanks for your reply,

I made the deposit via bank transfer from my Revolut account, the transfer to Revolut was via APM143~siti-iban. I used a bank transfer to the same Revolut account for the withdrawal and Retrobet uses payment partner APM35~payanybank-europe.

Retrobet has cancelled my bets 20 - 30 times now and is now sending me this email:

Dear Wenche,

I hope you are having a wonderful day.

I am reaching out to personally assist you with your withdrawal. You might have noticed that your request was declined, and I wanted to connect with you right away to explain why and help you get this sorted out.

Unfortunately, we are unable to process a withdrawal to your chosen IBAN. To successfully complete bank transfers for your account, our financial department requires using a local Norwegian bank account.

Please log in whenever you have a moment and submit a new request using your Norwegian bank details.

If you have any questions about this, need any assistance with updating your payment method, or run into any obstacles at all, please let me know. I am right here to help you anytime and will personally ensure everything gets sorted out for you as quickly as possible!

Although gambling is not illegal, Norwegian banks are not allowed to transfer bets and winnings in gambling that does not have a Norwegian license. The ban applies to both money that goes directly to and from the gaming companies, and money that goes via other parties and payment channels.

The original withdrawal was made on 21.06.26 and now I'm standing here with a win of NOK 50,000 and getting nowhere with Retrobet which just repeats and repeats the same message no matter what I say.

Do you have any ideas?

Just a little clarification:

I made the deposit via bank transfer from my Revolut account, the transfer from Revolut to Retrobet was via APM143~siti-iban.

I made a previous withdrawal from Retrobet that went well, this shows the transaction history on my account:

7 Aug 2025, 08:30

Cashout

Bank domestic IBAN withdrawal: WIRE

Completed

10000 kr

I used bank transfer at the time too, but it looks like they have now changed payment partners:

21 Jun 2026, 16:52

Cashout

APM35~payanybank-europe

declined

50000k

If Retrobet doesn't pay out my winnings without going through a Norwegian bank, it means that the casino is not designed for Norwegian users. And Casino Guru must inform about that in their review of Retrobet, otherwise they will lose 5.5 million potential customers.

Thank you for the additional details; they help clarify the situation.

One thing that stands out is that your previous withdrawal by bank transfer was completed successfully, whereas your recent withdrawal is being processed through a different payment partner. That suggests something in the payment process may have changed since your last successful cashout.

At this stage, it would be helpful if Retrobet could explain why a Norwegian bank account is now required when it apparently was not required for your previous withdrawal. Simply repeating that a local bank account is needed does not explain what has changed.

Regarding the review, I think it would be premature to conclude that the casino is not designed for Norwegian players based on a single case. It would first be important to establish whether this requirement stems from the casino's current payment arrangements, the payment provider, or another operational factor. I recall a few instances where the casino was unaware of the local restrictions due to a lack of a local license. That, in my opinion, remains one of the viable options. Perhaps I missed that information so hope you don't mind me asking—did you tell the support why you prefer staying out of norwegian bank institutions? It's just a thought. I guess similar questions may later rise up in the complaint.

I have not provided any information about Norwegian legislation regarding Norwegian banks and foreign casinos. I am afraid they already know it very well and that this is just a delaying tactic on Retrobet's part.
