Cambodian casino business got all but the good sides of gambling...

Their business are almost foreigner owned, they are a heaven for money laundering and corruption while not bringing that much tax revenues for the country...

They are also completely messing up the neighbourhoods where casinos are settling by offering terrible wages while having the price of everything around skyrocketting (virtually blocking Cambodian people from staying in those area).

I had the "chance" to pass by Sianoukville for 2 days before Covid and that's a damn nightmare thanks to those "Chinese casino paradise" investments the city is totally uncapable of handling 🤮 Awful experience

Disclaimer : I do love Casino in general and Cambodia - Just not the mix of both

Sounds like you have a great knowledge about the Cambodian environment. When you mentioned the part with skyrocketing prices, it actually reminds me certain areas in Malta. Once the property owners realized the foreigners working in igaming business have much higher wages than anyone else, they started increasing the prices for rent, meals in restaurants and other services, especially in those areas where the igaming companies have their offices. Those foreigners can afford living there, but the locals who don't work in igaming have no chance. It's way too expensive for them.

Honestly I do not know that much but it was just really striking.

And your Malta comparison really seems like the perfect example. They've got the same situation on a more chaotic -ASEAN style- crazy development 🔥

One can only hope for Cambodians that the country will flourish like Malta in the end then :')

To be fair, I wouldn't say Malta flourishes. The infrastructure is terrible, the rents are very high, the quality of building and services very low. I think Malta is the perfect example of how you shouldn't do that 😕
