Theme and Storyline

Lights is an odd slot, with a visual theme based around Chinese lanterns and the various styles they come in. The background to the slot is a gorgeous, almost magical landscape, while the symbols are various lanterns and the usual ace to ten symbols.

As themes go it might not seem to be all that rich visually, but by combining the lanterns with drifting, firefly-like lights the slot does manage to create a pleasing aesthetic that can be enjoyed by most players.

Graphics, Sounds and Animations

The key way in which the odd theme sells itself is in the graphics. They are charming and pretty, with the firefly patterns adding a magical element to the twilight glow of the lamps.

The musical accompaniment is not great but if it could be muted it would allow the well chosen sound effects to shine.

Overall this is a well animated and drawn slot machine, although visually fairly simple.

Gameplay

Lights is a five reel, nine win line slot machine. There are no gamble features and you must play all nine win lines.

During normal spins two to four floating Wilds appear on the reels (see below for details).

This is a fairly straightforward slot from a gameplay perspective.

Wilds, Bonuses and Free Spins

Wilds play as any symbol except for Scatters. Floating Wilds land at random on top of another symbol.

Hitting three or more Scatters triggers the free spin bonus. Three Scatters gets you ten free spins, four gets you twenty, five will win you the biggest prize of thirty free spins.

During free spins additional value is added by an increase in the number of floating Wilds which are now between three and six in number every spin.

Bet Sizes, RTP and Variance

Lights is a medium to high volatility slot, which we like as the higher the volatility the better a fit a slot is with our preferred strategies.

The return to player on Lights is 96.10%, this is roughly around the yardstick of 96% that we use to indicate average.

Conclusion

Lights is a simple, solidly made slot machine, but it doesn’t do very much to excite us.

The volatility is pretty high – a definite plus in our book – but the bonuses are pretty basic and the RTP pretty average.

It is not a bad slot, but does not earn an active recommendation from us.
