Welcome to the jungle, kid. Dive inside Jumanji for a five-reel thrill ride based on the classic movie.
Jumanji is a slot based around the 1995 Joe Johnston classic of the same name in which children are pulled into a magical board game and forced to struggle to survive in a world full of tropical animals and terrifying traps.
While the slot doesn’t include any of the original cast, the symbols include many of the tropical animals including rhinos and crocodiles. Presumably, it was easier to do that than negotiate with Robin Williams’ estate.
If you remember the movie, and fancy reliving a bit of your childhood, this should appeal plenty to you. If you’re unfamiliar with the film, this NetEnt’s slot still offers a nice tropical setting, though the presence of the board game might be a touch confusing.
The graphics are top notch in Jumanji. They art style captures the tone of the original movie perfectly and the array of wild animals are nicely rendered.
The range of features each come with cool animations and the overall style of the slot is well balanced.
The music is pretty innocuous and has the appropriate jungle vibe to it.
Jumanji is a five reel slot, with the symbols arranged in a 3-4-5-4-3 pattern. Onto this pattern are overlaid thirty-six winlines.
There are a series of random features which are triggered at the end of a spin. These are relatively rare compared to most games with a similar game mechanic.
Sticky Vines can activate when there are no other wins. In this feature any symbols that are part of a win are held in place while the reels are respun. You keep winning respins until no further wins occur.
If Monsoon Wilds are triggered, one or two reels (though never the fifth reel) are turned to Wilds during a spin. See below for details on the Wild symbol.
If Monkey Mayhem is triggered, after the reels stop, the symbols are reshuffled to guarantee a win.
Wild Stampede adds four to nine symbols to the reels after the spin is completed.
The Wild symbols substitutes for all symbols except for the Scatter symbol.
Three or more Scatter symbols trigger the board game bonus.
The more Scatter icons you hit, the more dice rolls you win. Three scatters gets you six dice rolls, four scatters gets you seven, and five gives you eight. Each dice roll represents an opportunity to win one of several bonus games.
When you roll the dice that determines how far round the board you go. Some squares win you nothing, while others earn you one of the following:
Jumanji’s mathematical variance isn’t especially high, coming in as it does in the medium volatility category. We do tend to prefer high variance slots.
The return to player on this slot is 96.33%, which is around the average for the industry, maybe a little higher. We use 96% as our rough yardstick for such things.
The minimum bet per spin is just £/$/€0.10 which allows even the smallest bankrolls to have a decent run at it. Jumanji can also cater to high-rollers with a maximum bet of up to £/$/€200 per spin.
Jumanji is a fun nostalgia trip for anyone who was brought up in the 90s and remembers being terrified by the stampede scene in Jumanji. The game itself is well made, and hits most of the beats you’d expect for a game based on the film and it is all designed with NetEnt level care.
It’s RTP is solid and although its volatility is too low for us to give it a strong recommendation based on our preferred strategies the game seems to do pretty well with its more casual players.
