In a magical world of fantasy and wizardry there’s Diamond Queen. Funny, if a little basic, Diamond Queen has a good RTP and high-variance in a well made package of the high standard we expect from IGT designed games.
Diamond Queen is a five reel slot produced by IGT and centres around a fantastical world of wizards, young adventurers and bejewelled monarchs.
Despite the title the purple colour scheme suggests amethysts over diamonds. Either way the coins it pays out are golden.
This fun little theme plays out in well drawn 3D symbols of tiaras, sceptres and the various characters (a Wizard, a Boy with a map, and the overly busty and corseted Diamond Queen). Each of the symbols has its own animation which is triggered when you win.
This world of magic is reflected in the twinkly soundtrack which sounds like fairy dust being sprinkled on a glockenspiel.
Overall it’s a good-looking slot.
It is a pretty standard five-reel slot with up to twenty winlines. You can select fewer if you want to up you volatility somewhat (the choice is between 1, 3, 5, 9, 15 or 20 lines). Beyond that there is little to change up the play.
It has a bonus game with locked wild reels which is where the big wins are made (see below for bonus details), but beyond that does little to innovate.
The gameplay is solid, but overall very typical of this kind of slot.
There are two special symbols in Diamond Queen: the Diamond Queen and the Mystical Diamond symbols.
The Diamond Queen is a wild symbol, allowing you to complete winlines with any of the non-bonus symbols. She’s handy for getting those small wins. But the big bucks come if you can land the Mystical Bonus symbol.
The Mystical Bonus symbol pays double your total bet per spin if you hit two of them. But if you hit three then you trigger the bonus spins.
In the bonus round you receive three free spins. Payouts remain mostly the same (apart from a reduction in the biggest single line payout), but some symbols are now stacked and reel two is entirely wild. On the second spin reel three also becomes wild and on the third reel four joins them.
Reel one also gains a free spin symbol that can get you up to 20 extra spins per bonus round.
Diamond Queen has a pretty standard RTP of 96.08% which coupled with a very high variance payout structure makes the game pretty attractive to those who like a gamble.
As well as offering a range of lines (between 1 and 20) to play you can also choose between 1 and 100 coins per line making for a huge spread of bet sizes.
When you combine this with variance coin values, you can generate a range of bet sizes from $/£/€0.10 to $/£/€2,000.00 per spin! Your possible win sizes will vary accordingly.
With its wide flexibility of bet sizes, high-variance, and decent RTP the basic maths for Diamond Queen is very attractive.
The theme is a little too whimsical for some tastes but if you don’t mind that this is a well made slot that offers some nice bonuses, though not many features.
