While it's fair to say that the gambling industry is much more open these days, state-owned Svenska Spel still account for around half of all betting transactions, owning many gambling brands including the popular scratchcard game, Triss. However, it's also true that Swedish players enjoy the most liberal betting laws in the country's history and benefit from a well-regulated system that shows concern for player welfare.

The timing of Sweden's historic Gambling Act was largely brought about by the digitization of gambling that had taken place over the previous decade. - Regulators to play a bigger role in enforcing the laws.
While some people in the betting industry complained that the new measures could increase the risk of black-market betting, the reforms were generally well-received and also reflect a wider trend of anti- problem gambling reform that countries like the UK have implemented recently.
