If you're already a fan of Play'n GO's Book of Dead or Legacy of Dead, you can head straight back to ancient Egypt with this game. Scroll of Dead takes you on an adventure through tombs and temples, where you'll search for the legendary Scroll of Shai.

The background looks similar to the previous games, just a little darker and more mysterious. Flaming torches set the scene, while the background music is heavy on strings, creating a bit of a hypnotic feeling.

Gameplay

At first, the game grid looks pretty standard: five main reels and three rows, with 10 paylines. Wins pay when the same symbols align on adjacent reels from left to right, on one of the paylines. But when you look a little closer, you'll notice a special extra reel. You'll have to get into the Free Spins round to find out what it does.

Look out for high-paying symbols like the Egyptian queen and the cobra, while the A, K, Q, J, and 10 symbols pay smaller wins.

Wilds, Bonuses, and Free Spins

The scarab symbol acts as both the Wild and the Scatter. It can substitute for other symbols to create winning combinations, plus if you land three or more of them, you'll trigger eight Free Spins. At the start of the bonus game, an Expanding symbol is randomly chosen, giving you more chances to win.

The Free Spins round also unlocks the sixth reel, which works the same way as the other reels, displaying regular symbols and Wild Scatters.

Conclusion

Scroll of Dead is definitely one for fans of Play'n GO's adventure games. The theme feels familiar, but the extra reel during the free spins round is a great addition and makes the bonus game a whole lot more exciting than the base gameplay. We liked the fact that you can play with between one and 10 active paylines, although we'd recommend playing with the maximum for more chances to win. On the downside, the RTP is much lower than average, but the high volatility still gets our stamp of approval.
